I agree.... He's not as bad as some of the crap we've had at the position. But it does raise an issue - Teams have been overpaying for guards the last few years in FA. Do we really overpay for a guy that might just be average? Or gamble on someone like Fisher being ready to take over.

I think it's just been a combination of things this year. Young new guy(s) mostly in at RT, in which he basically missed a full year of football. You lose that continuity in Smith, and with Bodine being Bodine, the line suffers, but then add in a bad/off year for Zeitler and you've got what has happened. Then factor in the run defenses they've faced in the first 4 games (well, 3 of the 4), and it's been nearly a perfect storm.
I do think the line can get better. Cedric can improve and should, and hopefully they will. If they can, then the OL is back to just having Bodine suck. The Bengals have not had any luck finding a Center to replace Braham, but teams go through stretches like this with certain positions. For as good as they draft (usually) the Ravens can never find a WR. Pitt has struggled to find CB's, Cleveland can't find anyone (ok, ok, I kid...but seriously)...It is what it is, and the Bengals can survive if it's just 1 weak link, but right now it's a combination of three of them, and I think that is a big reason for the struggles
