Obviously when the time comes and the contract end the team will be asking you to extend and when you indicate that you want to leave and be a free agent its on the team to move you so it would be more like the paul George situation with Indiana
If you don't tell them until your contract ends, you are already a FA. Davis is doing what George did, but even earlier, to give them more time. George told them he wouldn't re-up with a year to go

Davis is doing this now so he can still get max money if he just leaves and signs with the lakers he will get the max money only a free agent is entitled to but resigning with a team that max figure is a lot more that is what Anthony Davis wants

Sure, that's a big reason. But again, your idea of the player not saying anything until they become a FA doesn't make sense

Im saying he should just tell the team that he intends on becoming a free agent when his contract ends which at that point it would be up to the Pelicans on trading him wherever but demanding to be traded only to the LA Lakers isn't a good look
