Okay, after a few deep breaths, a few whiskeys and a good night's sleep. I'm over the shock of it all...

I've always liked Trubisky as a prospect, I just was SO F'ING stunned by the trade and taking him. Just zero indication we were going to do something like that. On top of it, I just think it was a big reach, which I never expected from Pace who has always preached a "best player available" philosophy. The picks we gave up made it a tad harder to swallow as well, seeing as we only moved up one spot. However, it's pretty obvious there were other teams on the phone bargaining for the pick to take him.

Seeing Kansas City give up two firsts and a third to take Pat Mahomes at #10 did make me feel a little better. lol. Trubisky may have been a borderline top 10 or mid-first round pick in a better rated QB class... but Mahomes was thought of by many as a 2nd round pick in THIS years draft. Wow. Now, that's really taking a risk.

I mean, look... I still think it was a rash move to make, but when you look into the kid. He does all of the right things. Says he's a film geek, and by all accounts works his tail off. He has all of the physical tools you could ask for, and put up eye popping numbers last year. Great athlete, great arm, good runner, great accuracy in college... seems like a smart kid.

13 starts in the ACC forming his entire body of work is NOT encouraging. This is a huge risk, no doubt about it. However, it's pretty clear that this is something Pace and company have been plotting for a long time. It wasn't just a desperate stab at any QB. They're truly committed to this kid, and seem out of their minds with excitement. I have to admit, if you just watch some film on the kid and forget about all of the noise right now. It's hard to deny that he's a really solid prospect.

Pace has been pretty solid at evaluating talent thus far, and if he loves the guy... I guess I have to give him some slack. I'm off the ledge and willing to give this all a chance. He REEEEAAALLLY went all-in though... man. lol

Stunned is the key word.

What I have accepted the morning after, is its not the fact they were worried about the 49ers taking him, I think everyone was clear that the 49ers were not. Pace had to be taking calls from Houston and the Chiefs to get to three where he had to think they wanted Mr Biscuit and was more concerned that the 49ers would deal with them. (Mr Biscuit is his actual nickname, from someone that said Mitch Trubisky too fast, so no start on me dicking with the guy ok?) This was a move to block anyone else from dealing with Sanfran.

I was shocked when the commish said his name. Shocked. Stunned. Wow. But I will stay with my words from previous years, saying I would prefer the GM deals to move up because that shows me he got his guy, not the guy that was left.

Now, who knows if KC traded up they still would have taken Mahomes, or if Houston still would have taken Watson, we will never know, but Pace dropped some huge balls on the table to get his guy, and his career and future as a GM in this league will be defined by this pick.

But damn, when I heard Jamaal Adams interview, man, that intensity is going to be big in this league.

Really impressed with Lynch's first GM move, got his guy and three more. Cleveland was making big moves while the Raiders of course took the guy that may be convicted of r*pe, showing me some things change while others stay the same.

At least the bears did not stay the same.

What we also need to realize... two things.

1) This means Mark Sanchez will probably never suit up for a regular season game in a Chicago Bears uniform.

2) Hey... at least we made it back into the league spotlight for a day!

Sure Pace was worried another team wanted to trade for the kid, so let them be the fool. Now next year when we're in the top 3 again do we pick another Q? I got caught up in the mock drafts thinking, man only if the bears could do it right, but, history shows the bears reaching on players no one else has on their board.

I let out an audible gasp, followed by repeating "holy shit"... over and over. I couldn't even react. I was in disbelief.

I've never been caught off guard like that in a draft.

Yeah, I'm sure. I browse a few different NFL forums, and boy... people are laughing at us. That's for sure.

You and me both. I have not let out that much emotion over the bears in a very long time. Part of me thinks the fuck ups were expected for so long, this one really surprised me. Made me feel change is really going to happen this time.

Yeah, still feel this is a low point for me in my Bears fandom... Really thought this pick was going to be a huge piece in turning the corner NOW... I really just don't get the signing of Glennon now... Someone in the other thread mentioned, "Well obviously he was brought in to mentor a young guy...". Ummm, you don't sign a relatively young, career backup to mentor a rookie. What the hell does Glennon know and what is he going to teach the guy, how to hold a clipboard?

The trading up to get him is just rubbing salt in the wound. We got played like a fiddle by a rookie GM.

I'm a logical guy and the move seems very illogical to me. I so wanted Adams. An intense stud defender and leader... Oh well...

All that said, I've seen people respond with, "Don't hate on the guy, he hasn't even had a chance to prove himself! Let's see what he does before we berate him!"... Let me be clear. I don't "hate" Trubisky. Hell, I hope he's the next Elway! I'll be rooting for him.

Trade value chart says otherwise. Says it was a fair trade.

Glennon was brought in because he's a veteran that they like, who they think can play solid football while bridging the gap to Trubisky. That's actually the one very smart thing we did here, IMO. Trubisky is inexperienced, and throwing too much at him immediately is the wrong move. Let him sit back and soak in the environment for a while, get comfortable. By the time Trubisky gets out there, I want him chomping at the bit. Not worried about what may go wrong. I want him to be over prepared.

No. 2 = 2600
No. 3 = 2200

That's 400 left over.

No. 67 = 255
No. 111 = 72

That's 327

Next year's 3rd can range anywhere from 80 pts to 255

I am just going by the trade value chart that is universally used. By that chart, is was a fair trade.

Now obviously, the player factors into that, but that is objective and at this point in time, nothing more than opinion.

Okay... but where is the third pick we gave? You didn't account for that. We gave TWO thirds. One being for next year.

The second third rounder is for next year.

I posted that it can range from 80 pts to 255 pts, depending on next year's standings.

So with this year's 3rd and 4th, by itself, we only come to 327...That is not a fair deal for San Fran. So the Bears offered next year's 3rd.

Trade chart-wise, it's pretty fair.

Obviously, if we finish dead last next year, the trade works slightly in San Fran's favor, but it really should, as they were holding the cards in the deal.

I know Houston moved more than the bears did, but swapping firsts 13 picks later and getting another first is alot more than thirds and fourths. Honestly, I was surprised it did not include a second. But biggest picture, the full jist of the deal is Cleveland took Brock Osweiller and his 16 million guaranteed, to pick 13 picks later and get Houstons first and second round picks next year, while also getting Garrett, Peppers and an awesome tight end.

Brock and a second for Deshaun Watson, a first and a second.

(Really impressed with Lynch's first GM move) AI. His first move was bringing in our 2 crappy QBs. His second move was passing on elite talent at the QB position. I predict he will be fired in 2 years.
