Don't think I've heard of an announcer so despised by the fan base of the team he covers before.

How does this man keep his job? Does he have some Mario blackmail pics held up somewhere?

Steiggy's brother, John is in upper management of the local broadcast group. That's how he got this job, in the first place. Mike Lange was the voice of the Penguins for a long ass time. But some backroom deals were made, and Lange got the boot, and Mike's long-time color analyst, Steiggy, got Lange's old play-by-play position.

The Penguins organization wisely gave the team radio job to Lange immediately after he was fired by what was then FSN, now Root Sports.

And yes, I know other teams fans hate Lange because of his simile's he uses after a goal. All I've got to say is grow a pair. Do you know how many shitty announcers there are in the NHL? I don't know how some of these clowns manage to get a job in media. But, then again, look at Steiggerwald's peach of a deal.

Please you wish you had a PbP announcer as good as Edwards.

I thought Brickley(sp?) was your play-by-play? In any case, the Pens DO have a PbP announcer that can run circles around most others in the profession. Sadly, you have to either be in Pittsburgh to hear him, or tune him in on the internet.

Mike Lange's knowledge and time spent working as a booth boss in hockey lends itself well to timely information that no one else would know. Vin Scully he is not, but he's in the same vein when it comes to cool facts and interesting stories of yester-year.

Oh yeah, u can keep Edwards in chowda land. We have enough homer in our own Bobby Errey

I like Errey. He's funny. Not the brightest crayon in the box, but he's at least good for a laugh. And he sees everything.

Steiggy sucks. He's just awful.

I like Errey, too, he's a homer, but that is status quo for the NHL. Having him teamed up with Elmer Fudd is just too much to handle, sometimes.

As an aside... most color analyst's in hockey are homers. The two most consistent and unbiased hockey announcers I've ever had the pleasure of listening to are the guys who do the broadcast for the LA Kings. They are professionals.

I freakin' love having Mickey Redmond, but I imagine all other teams hate him. Whaddyagonnado?
I'm pretty much over all other visiting broadcasters. I've come to grips that they are all going to annoy me to some degree. The Stars and Sharks guys probably rub me the wrong way the most, but thats only when we are losing. I like listening to anybody while we beat them.

You guys are missing the big picture here:

How many broadcast teams lend themselves to drinking games more than Steiggy and Errey?

Actually he works for Roots sports not the Penguins. So Mario is screwed into him like the rest of us.

Chicago maybe?

The "active stick" drinking game tends to get a few highly intoxicated.
