Wonder if Wastin stumbled back over to that Rays thread. Poor guy. :pound:

I was watching until our last out in the 8th. Even though we closed it to 5-4 I knew we would not do much against Street. I think he was one of the best tradeline pick ups this year and am upset that he was dealt to the Angels.

Not sure if this was already mentioned but Nick Williams was called up to Frisco. Skole needs to be sent down to MB. He should have never been brought up. High draft choice that I guess they were trying to force the issue.

Cueto is having a great year. Too bad nothing else around him has been working out that well. 15-6 with a 2.06 era on a team that is 61-61.

DMN news:

OF Nick Williams joined the wave of late-season minor league promotions, going from Class A Myrtle Beach to Double-A Frisco.

Williams, who turns 20 in September, hit .292 with 45 extra-base hits at Myrtle Beach.

- The Rangers sent RHP Justin Germano, who had been at Triple-A Round Rock, to the Los Angeles Dodgers for future considerations.

After LHP Derek Holland failed to get through four innings at Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, manager Ron Washington said he did not expect to see Holland pitch in the majors before rosters can be expanded on Sept. 1.

Derek Holland: Command spotty in first rehab start, but 'knee is great'
Holland allowed four hits and three runs (one earned) on 72 pitches in 3 2/3 innings. He is expected to throw 85-90 pitches in his next outing.

ARLINGTON – As the Rangers keep pushing for the all-time major league record for pitchers used in a season, the club inched a little closer on Friday by purchasing the contract of 26-year-old RHP Jon Edwards of Keller.

If he appears for the Rangers, Edwards will become the 36th pitcher used and the 56th overall player. The major league record for pitchers used in a season is 37 by the 2002 San Diego Padres.
This from DMN:

Edwards replaces LHP Robbie Ross, who started and struggled on Thursday. Ross was optioned back to the minors. The Rangers have not announced what they will do with the starting rotation spot Ross held.

Edwards is 1-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 15 innings at Triple-A Round Rock, but has a 4.41 ERA for the year including 33 innings over 22 appearances at Double-A Frisco.

Regarding our minors:

Rangers farm clubs began Friday with a .575 composite winning percentage, the best among the 30 major league franchises.

“Development is the most important thing,” said director of minor league operations Mike Daly. “It supersedes everything else. But at the end of the day, winning is important. We expect to win at the major league level. It’s good to put players in as many of those situations as possible at the minor league level first. If a reliever has to close out a game or get an inning of work, it’s different when it is a 4-2 lead rather than a 6-1 deficit. Winning within the framework of the development is significant.”

Also of significance is this: The minor league teams are doing it with younger than average rosters. The Rangers Class A and Double A clubs are ranked among the three youngest rosters (by average age) among all 30 organizations, according to MLBfarm.com

MB and the Rough Riders account for most of the high winning %, but that's still promising for the future. Just not as much for the immediate future.

I look forward to having Williams, Brinson and Mazara man the OF here in Arlington. That means at some point we have to find some team to unload Choo on. I am sure that will cost us about $5-6 million per season that we would have to pay on his contract.

Hopefully all 3 make it, but I'll settle for 2 out of 3. I would say Choo can be our DH but I want that to be Beltre. I think Choo bounces back when healthy next year. He's just not himself out there.

It still goes with what you are saying but Hickory is 70-54. So they are a big part of that winning %.

Maybe we'll get to see a win, highlighted by Hamilton going 0-for, and another 4 Ks tonight.

This rating is from Manny Acata and Jim Bowden:

Best catcher arm:

1. Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals
"In football, they have the term 'shutdown corner.' Well, Yadier is a shutdown catcher." -- Jim Bowden

2. Salvador Perez, Royals: "Has a cannon for an arm, a quick release and good feet." -- Crawford
3. Matt Wieters, Orioles
4. Russell Martin, Pirates
5. Yan Gomes, Indians

Honorable mentions: A.J. Ellis, Wilson Ramos, Christian Vazquez

How can the best throwing catcher in the AL not be mentioned?

Hey look, Texas still stinks. Rockies game PPD due to a broken water main which knocked out park facilities. We should over take them tonight.
