SP with an ERA under 4.00 across mlb
2022-43 Rangers have 2
2021-28 Rangers had 1/2 (Gibson)
2020-27 Rangers had 1
2019-34-Rangers had 2
2018-39 Rangers had 0
2017-29 Rangers had 1
2016-40 Rangers had 2 (3) hamels darvish/Lewis

None of the pitchers that had an ERA below 4 were homegrown.
Lewis and Perez had to leave and come back.

Why do the Rangers struggle to develop pitching so bad??
Hopefully this is changing soon..
That is one of the biggest indictments on Jon Daniels' time here.

Would like to know how many of those pitchers were homegrown to really understand the concept.

I heard Bacsik talking just now about Woodward and the possibility of him being fired. He brought up something that I hadn't thought about. He said since Chris Young had nothing to do with Woodward's hire that he may take the opportunity to bring in his own guy, one he hires. He also mentioned that that could only happen like that if Chris young is actually the guy in charge of things like that.

Yes, Chris Young has to be in charge of firing the manager in order to fire the manager.

0 SP that had an ERA below 4.00 over the last 7 years were home grown.

Probably won't this year. BP is terrible but there is always hope.
I think we could change some starting pitchers as was mentioned earlier.try Howard, Hearn and some in the minors.

across MLB entirely, not just the Rangers.

Speaking directly about the Rangers having 0 homegrown ERA under 4.00 over the last 7 years.
Imo that’s bad regardless of other teams situation

it is bad, yes. but knowing how that compares to other teams would tell us if it's more about the general difficulties of accomplishing that, or if it's something the Rangers are specifically bad at doing.

Well that’s definitely a good point.
But i figured 0 over the last 7 years would be proof enough haha

Here we go!

Derek Holland in 2013 was our last good homegrown pitcher lol
We are basically dead last
The diamondbacks have Merrill Kelly now
This is a very good article.. really shows the Rangers pitching incompetence over the last 10 years

very informative article. it also mentions that 5 of the past 7 WS champions didn't have a homegrown 3 WAR starter.

That’s pretty interesting as well.
Maybe waiting for a whole stable of SP to come up through the minors isn’t a good idea.
Possibly use some of the prospects to trade for a proven MLB starter and Sign another.
I would leave one spot, 5th spot, open for a rookie and then there will be injuries and such to allow our own guys a chance.

The Braves did have Ian Anderson and Max Fried last year though. Both homegrown and pitched really well.
Anderson 2.9 WAR
Fried-4.4

I think one of the issues is that we have relied so much on development this year but unlike the past we have no AAA fodder for spot starts and this more bullpen games and now our pen is stretched.
We likely need one more vet pitcher at least and then keep either Otto or Dunning in the minors for call up
Obviously a closer and set up man is needed

That's the whole thing - building a WS contender is a complex process. There are so many ingredients to it, and you can do everything right and still come up short.

At least the Rangers are aware of the idea that they have not been good at developing pitching, and so they are working on that. Lots of arm potential in the system, now we just have to hope the seeds grow.

Also the 2017 Astros had Dallas Kuechel definitely homegrown with a 3.9 WAR.
