Just putting it out there to correct a common misconception being floated by the media.

We do not take an actual cap hit at this point for releasing Griffin. His salary this year and his bonus pro rate have already been factored into this years cap. Thus if we released him its a net wash. We wont gain any cap space by cutting him, but we also dont LOSE $6.7 million in cap space.

On the flip side if we can actually manage to trade him, we gain a little over 43 million in cap space, which is why they are even trying to entertain that prospect.

Because if reports are true, RG3 (or some one in his camp) requested the second look at his concussion test results. Apparently the team feels he does not trust them and want to be done with him. But effectively RG3 is locked into a roster spot until he either clears the tests or the team declares him PUP which is a whole different can of worms which I have a feeling has not even crossed their minds at this point.

Note that should have said we gain an additional $3 million in cap space if we can trade him instead of cutting him.

the 6.7 can be spread over 2 years as well as for trading 3 i doubt that happens because no team istaking on 16.2

I believe Griffin and his agent could negotiate that $$ option within a trade but am not sure about this. Anyone know?

I'm all for trading and getting a pick, any pick, when you considered Albert Haynesworth turned into Keenan Robinson and McNabb turned into Alfred Morris. But I'm not sure there will be a trading partner, Philly is all in with Bradford for some reason and Dallas just gave Romo a big deal. Maybe Oakland? That seems to be a good place for bad Redskins QB to die.

I'm thinking KC might be the best fit for him myself.

Another issue with a trade is the cap issue. Most teams have their rosters full and are close to or up against the cap. The couldn't take on rg3's current salary hit, let alone the 16m for next year without cutting some serious talent.

Actually the $6.7 is already accounted for in the current cap figures. So if he was cleared today and we cut him tonight, our cap numbers dont change one red cent. If we trade him, his base salary of $3.7 million goes to the new team, thus our cap space would go up by this much.

The report of us taking a cap HIT is false sketch reporting intended to make the situation look even worse than it already is for pure shock value. Simply put, we have a little over $8 million in cap space right now. If we keep him, we still have a little over $8 mill, if we cut him we still have a little over $8 mill. If we trade him, we end up with a little over $11 million.

So unless some one wants to doubt my cap numbers. :D

If Robert is medically cleared today and they plan on releasing him, today is the day to do it. The media is obsessed with the Brady news and it would be a second tier headline. It would alleviate some of the drama, at least.
