IMHO....
Exile on Main Street was by far the best album of 1972...with Eat a Peach, Close to the Edge, Harvest, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (Spiders From Mars)....Obscured By Clouds, Can't Buy a Thrill, and Transformer, right behind.

also.... Machine Head, Caravanserai, Catch Bull at Four, & Honkey Chateau are right up there too.

We will disagree...in reality though while I was doing Basic at Ft. Ord in the summer of '72 "Brandy" by Looking Glass was the most played song...I learned to really hate it. :D

No worries....the 70's was still the best decade for all types of music.....I listened to lots of soul/R&B as well.
One of my fave albums from that year is Van Morrison's "Saint Dominics Preview"

Best song off the worst album of 1972....CCR's "Sweet Hitchhiker" from their disastrous Mardi Gras album.
