Angels take 20 pitchers in 20 rounds, in the draft.

A's draft a Max Muncy, after drafting another Max Muncy 9 years ago.

The two Max Muncy's have the same August 25th birthdate, 9 years apart!

This probably deserves its own thread.

Thoughts on FOX using a Harry Caray hologram?

I was so confused when I saw that. I rewatched it on the DVR 4-5 times, trying to understand what I was seeing.

I didn't know it was a hologram.

I don't think it looked terrible, but it shouldn't be FOX that uses the hologram. It should be the Chicago Cubs themselves. If the Cubs are having some kind of on field ceremony and want to use a hologram, then it's their choice.

I think context/tone was missing in FOX's decision.

Plus, this is a Reds home game. Whoever initiates Take Me Out To The Ball Game should be a Reds legend.

I did like seeing Johnny Bench. The way he talked about studying a player's hips/leg movements when watching them play, was interesting. I didn't know Bench was still alive, so that was cool to see.

If FOX really wanted to do something Harry Caray related, then use an audio recording (with the Cubs permission). But that still irks me since it's a Reds home game.

Was that from a real recording of him that they projected to a hologram or did they do a hologram based upon someone else performing?

I would love it if they did one with the Beatles. I have heard that their live performances were not the best because nobody could hear them due to the screaming. They couldn’t even hear themselves. So if they did a hologram concert, I would like them to use the real recordings audio wise but somehow do the live physically? There would be some things they would need to fix to lip-synch, but they are saying the same words at the same speed so that should make it a little bit easier.

Whitney Houston has a whole concert that way. They may do Michael Jackson.

I didn't realize right away that the pitcher made a behind the back catch.

One thing that bugs me in baseball is the intentional walks. I understand that there are some times where it makes sense in competition based upon number of outs, run score, the batter, etc. I know that if you took out intentional walks, pitchers would just throw outside of the box by a little bit to still intentionally walk a player. I feel that if you intentionally walk a player, they should get three bases. Whether or not everyone else advances, I don’t know. maybe they advance only if the team has someone on third base already.

It bugged me when the pitchers did not want to pitch to the batter because of a record. They don’t want to be the one that gives up the 61st home run. it is sort of like how in basketball, some players don’t want to be posterized so they don’t challenge a shot. It’s different if they are in foul trouble or if the shot is an obvious hard shot already, The end one is likely, and the shooter is a good free to share, though I don’t think you really necessarily factor that in when you’re in the heat of the moment.

I want the players to be competitive and that might mean walking a player if it’s necessary. if the game situation calls for it, fine. and I suppose it evens out because the record breaking player who is being walked probably is being walked to avoid breaking the record of somebody who had been also walked would they set the record. so I suppose every record-breaking batter had to face the same hurdle and therefore proportionally, the difficulty is the same.

I think if I had more time and interest, I would look into figuring out records based upon at bats and I would take out the walks unless there’s at least two strikes that goes with it. Or maybe 40 at bats would be eliminated.

I understand what you mean in that it potentially hinders a record.

But MLB is also different, in that one swing of the bat can produce anywhere from 1 - 4 runs. So it's better to give up a base, than potentially 3-4 runs.

I wonder if a batter would ever intentionally choose to get hit by a pitch, to avoid giving a pitcher a strikeout record.
