I dont mind having the all star game be the decider for home field in the World series... I agree that it is not the best way to do it, but it is so much better than what they have done... I actually like the fact that the players decide who gets the home field... The better teams will always have the most ASG players, and the majority of the players from the bad teams who make it to the ASG either dont play enough or deserve to be there, so i dont see that being a valid argument against it...

As for the other 4 most commonly requested ways to decide
1. Odd years are american even years are national league- why should the year give a team the advantage, how does that make any more sense or is any more fair than the ASG??

2. Best record wins- until balanced and equal schedules why should a team get rewarded for having an easier schedule... There will always be better overall divisions and leagues!!!

3. league that has better interleague play record wins- once again until equal scheduling this is not fair... 18 games is still only playing 5-6 teams... so some teams really can have a huge advantage...*** they are going to increase the amount of games sooner or later, so maybe this should be the way of the future
4. coin toss- just like swapping leagues after every year, this makes no sense and is not fair...

The NBA and NHL both do it by best record and that is far and away the best and most fair way to do it. That would be like 4 teams in one division having 4 of the 5 best record in the league. Is it fair one of those teams won't make it? No but that is how it is.

Yes but 3 of the 4 who are not on a playoff team deserve it!!! as i said the mass majority of all star players either deserve to be on the team or they are on a playoff team... generally the ones who dont belong on the AS team and who are not on a playoff bound team barely even play

I don't buy the easier schedule line. In a 162 game season there are no frauds in baseball.

Its not just the easier schedule it is at least 144 game different schedule... That is too many games and to large of a percentage of the schedule to be different...

I don't buy that for a second. The fairest way is by best record.
