I think some of you guys are underestimating the Texans.....they run the hell out of the ball and play great defense....even Leinart can hand off to Foster and Tate....expecting an easy win there is not very thoughtful....they will have Andre Johnson back, too.....

Its a horrible rule, isnt the rule for a TD to break the plain of the goal line? if it is Gresham did it.

I wonder if there's a player they would give slack to on this? Anyhow, I guess they don't want to make the league even more pass friendly than it already is though.

Our run defense is very good and Leinart is a freakin bum. It will be an easy victory.

This team struggles on the back-end with safeties and struggles to block the run. If we can correct these issues, we'll be fine. I just worry that talent to fix these problems isn't currently on the roster.

The run blocking was actually better than usual yesterday.....on Benson's second TD both Williams and Andre pancaked their guy, and the whole line reestablished the line of scrimmage in the end zone....the pass blocking on the last three plays just completely fell apart, and had been pretty good all day...maybe the noise at the end caused miscommunications....I think you're right about the safety problems, in that the guys we need to fix that problem are not here yet....I would really like to see the secondary addressed in the offseason, and I still think we're going to end up sorry we weren't able to keep JJ....

These are my thoughts as well. They have a lot of talent on the roster offensively and defensively to help mask Leinart. They've had the bye week, have Jacksonville next week, and Atlanta's 26th ranked passing defense the following week to get him settled into a nice role before our game.

Additionally, Houston is 2nd in rushing yards per game and 15th in passing yards. Some of that may have to do with rushing a lot late in games with a lead, but it still sheds a glimpse on the fact that they don't heavily rely on the passing game to be effective.

And if our defense without Hall last week against a crappy Raven's offense is any indication of what to expect the rest of the season, I wouldn't brush off any offense against us. Hall's absence also looked to have an effect on our running game. We saw the safeties deep in pass coverage often. Possibly to make him for the loss of Hall. So, that may have had something to do with the Raven's effectiveness with the run. Point being, I wouldn't put too much stock just yet in being able to stop a player like Foster just because we've had a great run defense to this point.

That is true if you establish yourself outside of the endzone. I.e. have both feet down AND make a football play prior to the ball crossing the goal line. Gresham did neither. He put his second foot in the endzone and obviously never had the opportunity to make a football play.

Gresham's catch was similar to a catch at say midfield. If a player makes a clean catch in the air, but the ball comes out as he hits the ground, it's ruled an incomplete pass, not a fumble. Essentially assumed that he never had possession.

They are consistant, but I agree. I thought the rule was, IF the catch was IN THE ENDZONE, he had to come down, and maintain control all the way through.

However, if the player catches the ball, is in bounds and crosses THE PLAIN OF THE ENDZONE, the play is now dead. It ends the second the ball crosses the plainof the endzone. Therefore, it wouldn't matter if he maintained control all the way down, because the play should have been over before then.

yea, they showed a clip of the calvin johnson play, it just doesn't seem like the same play to me, exactly, but the rule is a rule. seems like he had possession of it all the way down to the ground to me, and that's good for me, but, if the shoe was on the foot, my inclination would be "no td for you"

Yes, but the operative word missing there is "possession". He has to cross the plane with possession of the ball. In that case, possession isn't established until he lands (either 2 feet down plus a "football move" or falling to the ground maintaining control of the ball).
