Plattos spoke with FOXSports.com on Tuesday about the incident that took place on May 10. After having dinner, he went to sleep around midnight in his bedroom on the second floor of the house. He was awoken a short time later by strange sounds.

“I could hear the footsteps on the hardwood floors on the second floor and it was distinct,” Plattos said. “I could hear the walking. And I listened and listened and thought ‘I better check this out.’”

He grabbed his gun and started loading it with bullets. Suddenly, the door to his bedroom swung open.

“All of a sudden I see this big, not necessarily big, but a dark figure in the doorway and it startled me and it startled him apparently,” Plattos continued.

“I think he saw my gun and I just looked at him and said, ‘You better get the hell outta here now.’ He slammed the door. This all happened in seconds.”

What Plattos hadn’t noticed before all of this started was the police helicopter flying overhead looking for a suspect that had run from authorities.

The person he came across was allegedly none other than Titus Young. Rather than chase the man down the stairs, Plattos stayed in his bedroom and called 9-1-1. When the police arrived, they discovered his front door was open. This actually came as a relief to the homeowner, who wasn’t sure that he hadn’t hallucinated the entire incident.

“I was glad to hear it so I know that it happened,” he said.
Plattos has a theory as to why Young chose his home for a break-in.
“I believe that he was not necessarily burglarizing the place, but I think he was trying to find a place to crash for the evening and then maybe he would take off,” Plattos said. “And so he was stunned when he found somebody home.”

Approximately 45 minutes later, the police said they had caught the suspect after a brief struggle and asked Plattos to identify him.
“I looked from a distance because they didn’t let me close and I didn’t recognize him. Later on they came back to me and said we want to talk to you because he may have come in a different way than we thought,” Plattos said.

“Now what happened apparently is he climbed up on the roof and he tried to get in the window. He took a screen off one of the bathrooms up there. He couldn’t get it. He climbed down the roof and came down to my balcony in the back, which I usually leave open because it’s the second floor.
“[The police] said ‘oh yeah, he’s really agile, he’s been running around like crazy and he got in the house.’”

It wasn’t until the next day when he discovered the person who was apparently in his home was none other than Titus Young, a person he had just been reading about in the news. How did he react to that?
“I was really stunned. And I felt bad for him,” Plattos said. “I’m sure glad that I didn’t shoot him and I hope he’s ok. I hope somebody helps him out.”
