His much improved defense has been a big part of the overall improvement of the team. Just want to see his bat be a little more consistent. He's an easy guy to root for.

It is my understanding Scherzer threw 68 pitches in his simulated game…so we can expect about 75-80 pitch cap? Maybe tonight is the first two starter game with Gray or Heaney coming in for a couple innings?

In his most recent live batting-practice session on Saturday, Scherzer threw between 65-70 pitches, which Bochy said would be the starting point for his Game 3 appearance. If Scherzer is feeling good and working quickly, the staff isn’t opposed to letting him go further.

I'm concerned about Scherzer starting tonight. I know he's a bulldog, but I think I'd just prefer him out of the bullpen in long middle relief. Hope he does well but I'm worried about the HR ball and him not having any live game action in 5 weeks.

I also think Dunning absolutely deserves the game 4 start. He earned it with a nice finish to the season.

I don't agree with Jeff Wilson. If Scherzer is effective he goes well beyond 11 batters. If he is effective I would think he makes it to, if not through, the fifth inning

And I would not put Will Smith against Alvarez.

I’m thinking the Astros starting game plan is to take pitches and see if Scherzer has (1) control and (2) try to drive his pitch count up to get into the bullpen early.

I think giving Scherzer a shot is worth the risk. Cy Young awards are hard to overlook.
