I hope so. Would be disappointed with current bullpen even though I like some of the acquisitions
Yeah, I am very happy with the bullpen with the exception of the closer. To me, signing a good closer has been our biggest need this offseason. It could be a great offseason if we close the deal for a closer.

I guess Jonah is our only arbitration eligible player left who hasn't agreed on a deal for 2025.

I like Webb. Garcia and Milner have a decent chance of turning out well, also. Curvelo is more of a future piece. I don't get them signing Armstrong, at all.
From no LHP to a strength

I agree. To me based on our current staff Gray needs to be the closer. There isn't anyone else including Martin. If we can add that one piece then Gray can start and I will be satisfied with what we will start the season with. Could guys like Webb, Garcia and Milner crash and bun? Sure they could. But I though they were smart and reasonable acquisitions with some upside.

From Jon Heyman:

The Dodgers and Padres have long been the favorites for superstar Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, but some hopeful execs wonder if turmoil at the top of San Diego’s hierarchy — the widow of late owner Peter Seidler is suing his brothers for control of the team — could hinder San Diego’s chances.

While this is merely wishful speculation, the Padres have clearly changed gears since Seidler’s untimely death, going from one of baseball’s biggest spenders to its biggest payroll cutter.

From Kennedi Landry:

Jonah Heim and the Rangers have settled on a $4.575 million deal for 2025, per source, avoiding arbitration.

The Rangers 4 arbitration eligible guys, Sborz, Dunning, Heim and Taveras, signed for a total of $13.085 million. Thy is a combined savings of $3.865 million from what Spotrac.com had estimated when making their luxury tax payroll salary figures.

That savings gives the Rangers $12,528,334 left to spend in 2025 without going over the Luxury tax threshold.

That's why we haven't seen them sign a closer yet. There is still going to be a money-saving trade to be made if they want to sign a closer.

It would seem that the leading candidates to be traded would be Taveras, Mahle and Gray. Taveras would only give them an additional $4.75 million. A trade of Gray would free up $14 million and a trade of Mahle would free up $11 million. Of course, the Rangers may be forced to eat some of those dollars if they traded one of the two pitchers.

My choice would be to trade Mahle and Taveras and sign Scott and Austin Hays.

I would offer Scott a 3 year deal that is slightly backloaded.

$18 million in 2025
$21 million in 2026 and $21,500,000 in 2027

That would allow Scott, Hays and a few million to save in case a trade deadline acquisition is needed.

4.5 million for Leody and 4.7 for Heim. Like said to much.
Who do you think he sits to play Leody? Carter, Langford, or Garcia? Then there is the other OF who became one of Bochy's favorites last year, Josh Smith.

I am with you get the closer and it makes a big difference. Hopefully the longer it takes for guys like Yates to sign perhaps we have a shot.
Starting to feel better about the team getting a closer
