Like him in a utility role but not as a starter
Yeah, that's kind of how I view him. Although, I wouldn't be shocked if at some point he had a year like Josh Smith just had, though. Cruz and Garcia were both late bloomers, and I actually like Duran better now than I did either of them when they were at this same stage of each of their careers.

If Duran can handle the outside breaking stuff he could easily make it as a starter. Big if for now

Something to keep in mind about Evan Carter hitting lefties. Josh Smith hit .120 and .118 against lefties in his first 75 or so plate appearances against them in his first 2 seasons. This past season, he hit .286 against lefties.

Evan Carter has had 40 plate appearances against lefties.

Be patient with the kid.

Do you have any numbers comparing how he did in 2024 and how he did previously. I am curious as to if he made any strides.

I am not sure how to access the splits in the minors, so I couldn't tell you. I do know Carter was a lot higher regarded as a prospect than Smith was. Well, he was by most everyone except me. I liked Smith more in the minors.

I couldn't find it either. I was hoping you would have better luck.

I did find one link to Carter's splits in Low A ball in 2021. He had an OPS of over 1.000 against them that year. It was a limited sample size, 51 plate appearances. I will keep looking for more.

I would like to see Soto sign with the Red Sox since we can't sign him.

Not a fan of deferred money. Has some partial bearing on tax avoidance methinks

From Bob Nightengale:

The Los Angeles Dodgers annual CBT for Blake Snell with his signing bonus and deferrals will be about $32-33 million, officials with direct knowledge of the deal say, compared to the $36.4 million AAV for Snell.

From Mark Feinsand:

If Snell's CBT AAV is $32-33 million per year, that puts the present-day value of the deal in the $160-165 million range. The details of this deal will be very interesting to see.

Dodgers and Blake Snell in a agreement on a 5 year 182 million contract.
first top FA signing we should see several more over the next few days but doubt any will be signed by Texas. we might see 1 or 2 Level 5 or lower signings by Texas between now and Christmas

From Jon Morosi:

The Orioles and Braves are among the teams with interest in free agent Nathan Eovaldi, as I mentioned on @MLBNetwork this morning.
