Report: DC Todd Orlando awarded record-breaking contract at Texas
Report: DC Todd Orlando awarded record-breaking contract at Texas

Todd Orlando now becomes the highest-paid assistant in school history.

According to a report from the Austin American-Statesman, Texas Longhorns first-year defensive coordinator Todd Orlando is now the highest-paid assistant in school history after the UT System Board of Regents approved Orlando’s pay raise on Wednesday morning.

After following Tom Herman from Houston to Austin, Orlando agreed to a three-year deal worth $1 million per year, which will now increase to $1,090,000 annually as part of a contract that runs through March 31, 2020.

Additionally, Orlando can still earn up to $95,000 annually based on performance bonuses.

Orlando spent that last two seasons serving under Herman at Houston and in 2016, his Cougar defense ranked 10th nationally in total yards allowed (3,900). As a result, upon taking the job at Texas, Herman is now famously quoted for his comment, “I’ve seen Todd Orlando make chicken salad out of some lesser parts.”

Now with a wider array of talent at his disposal, Orlando seemingly has a defense that struggled mightily last season on the up-and-up. Numerous reports throughout the spring indicated that Orlando’s defense was often overwhelming an offensive unit that compiled just shy of 500 yards of offense per game last season and such claims were supported during the spring game.

If Orlando’s first season on the Forty Acres can produce a product similar to what he orchestrated at Houston in 2016 with ‘lesser parts,’ Orlando’s lucrative pay raise will widely be considered money well spent.

Here’s a look at some of the other Texas assistant’s contracts the Board of Regents approved:
  • Running backs coach Stan Drayton: $455,000in 2017, $515,000 in 2018
  • Safeties coach Craig Naivar: $490,000 per year
  • Strength coach Yancy McKnight: $425,000 per year
  • Defensive line coach Oscar Giles: $390,000
  • Offensive line coach Derek Warehime: $390,000
  • Receivers coach Drew Mehringer: $340,000

Did the guy have the flu last year when they played Navy, SMU, and Memphis.
Giving up 46, 38, 48 points.

Or is this the same guy??

smh, you realize he beat YOUR TEAM right? Maybe you shouldn't bring up this coaching staff's last season results, focus on how they're all evil wolves in sheep clothing.

Pretty healthy vs OU though. Guessing the +3 turnovers made a bigger difference in that Navy game than the 382 given up. Memphis was bad.

Should have gotten a bigger raise than Riley based on their head to head meeting

SMH, it wasn't our team. The topic is a coach, and you brought up last season's results. HE BEAT YOU LAST SEASON, that's why it's hilarious that you sooners do that. Stay away from that topic, and domestic violence all off season.

Wait
You guys bust on Mike Stoops all the time for the same stupid shit.
Win a big game, then lose to teams you shouldn't a couple of times a year.
But this new guy is different except he isn't mmmmmk.

And I'm the cherry picker.

I know that Texas opened up the checkbook to make it appear that they have the utmost confidence in their new Coaching staff, but those loses last year would worry the shit out of me.

Any team capable of beating an Oklahoma team having an off day should be able to handle Navy, SMU, and Memphis with little problem.

But they didn't.

So let me get this straight.....

OU couldn't beat a team that Memphis, SMU and Navy did?

And OU fans keep bringing this up? LMAO

You are assuming those teams are significantly worse than OU. Big assumption

Because we all know transitive property is a valid way to evaluate college football teams... :L
