I remember seeing that map in the Wall Street Journal. This was only counting which ranked teams had the most "likes" on facebook for each county. It in no way represents how many Auburn fans there are in the State of Alabama, because they weren't even counting teams that were not in the preseason rankings.

The NY Times did a huge demographic study of CFB fans two years ago.

Texas was the 5th largest fanbase with 2.250 million fans.
TAMU was the sixth largest fanbase with 2.030 million fans.

Considering that Texas seems to have a more national fanbase and 2011 was before Johnny Football came, this doesn't surprise me at all.

In a unrelated note, Texas is the #1 selling licensed NCAA brand in the USA, Europe, Asia, and South America. That is the 8th year in a row..... for such an unpopular brand.

Good for A&M to get some traction in Dallas.
