SCOUTING THE STARTERS

Rangers RHP Josh Lindblom (first MLB start of 2013) has transitioned well from relief work to the rotation while at Triple-A Round Rock. After a poor spring that saw him lose a spot in the Rangers’ bullpen, Lindblom has been able to get the ball down in the strike zone. The results: a 4-0 record and 2.08 ERA for the Express. He held Triple-A hitters to a .173 average. If he gets the ball up, watch out for homers. He allowed 13 in 71 major league innings in 2012.

Matchup of note: New Ranger-killer OF Yoenis Cespedes, who has a .338 batting average and four homers in 20 games against Texas, has faced Lindblom one time. He hit a three-run homer.

Oakland RHP Bartolo Colon (3-2, 4.56 ERA) won his first three decisions and held a 2.42 ERA after shutting out Boston for seven innings on April 23. Since then, he’s looked like he’s 40, which he will be come Friday. He’s 0-2 in in his last four starts with a 7.17 ERA and has not lasted more than 83 pitches. That run includes road starts at New York and Cleveland in which he allowed 14 hits (four of them homers) and nine runs in 9 1/3 innings.

Matchup of note: 3B Adrian Beltre is 19-for-60 (.317) with five homers against Colon. It matches the most homers Beltre has hit against any pitcher. RF Nelson Cruz is 1-for-12 (.083), however.

3 runs sounds about right. As much as he has owned our team, he doesn't do well in our home park.
I'm thinking he goes 5.1 for 4ER.

I thought so, there just wasn't a smooth transition there, I think Colon does about the same, the bats just need to be patient and lay off the junk out of the zone

That's always TEX Achilles heel. They have the patience to wait on a Verlander but can't seem to wait on junk ballers.

I am really looking forward to seeing Lindblom's start. After TEX has pulled out Tepesch, Grimm and Lindblom out of its pitching bag and acquires Chirinos out of the blue other teams must be asking the question Butch asked Sundance:

"Who are those guys?"
