Terry Bradshaw wasn't the greatest and he still found a way to make a good career of it.

No, he wasn't the greatest. He was pretty good though. In the NFL no less. Ehlinger has done nothing to have all these accolades laid on his feet. Maybe he'll be good. But I see a guy in a league without defenses to speak of who was the fifth most accurate out of 10 teams, fifth in yards, tied for sixth in yards per attempt, fourth in touchdowns, and fifth in QB rating. He seems perfectly average to me for the Big XII. He was literally the middle of the pack. Yeah, the guy ran for 450 yards and 16 touchdowns. But he carried it like 200 times. Anybody can average 2.9 ypc. He's not Tebow, and one big upset does not a Heisman candidate make.

Though I hope Texas makes it to the playoffs. Clemson hasn't blown them out yet.

I know you're trolling, but since some people are stupid like Bowlsby. Bowls always favor defenses, because the opposing team has a month or more to prepare for a given offense. Also, comparing defensive performances against season averages is a completely idiotic metric. Bowl teams are the better half of college football teams each year. Meanwhile, every team is going to play non-bowl eligible teams and most will play one or two FCS or G5 teams.

Take Alabama-Oklahoma. Yeah, Oklahoma held them one point under their season average (let's ignore the fact that Alabama quickly crushed the Sooners and then went into auto-pilot to rest up for Clemson). Alabama's season scoring was helped out by playing Louisville (maybe the worst team in the P5), Arkansas State, Louisiana Lafayette, and the Citadel. Take those out and Bama's season scoring was 43, not 46, and Oklahoma allowed more than the season average. The same can be said about almost every Big 12 bowl game.

Here's an interesting stat. Five of seven of the Big 12 teams did worse defensively against their opponent, despite having a month to prepare for the offenses, than the average bowl eligible opponent did against that same offense. That's a much more fair metric, and from it, I conclude that Bob Bowlsby is an idiot and that statistically no, there aren't any kids who can tackle in the Big 12.

It's really not the same since the offense is the one dictating the tempo and style of play on the field. Offenses are usually going to run their style of football, though they may throw in some plays (that are already in the playbook) if they notice in film that it gives the other team fits. At the end of the day, the offense plays its own game. For example, over the last 5 years, Alabama has been fantastic against the run, one of the two best. They've been weaker to the vertical pass (though still good). However, if Army were to play Alabama tomorrow, do you think Army would come out running the air raid? No, they'd still run the option, because that's what they drill every day. For offense, it's about running your style of football better than the opponent. Defenses are more flexible and can respond more fluidly to what the opponent is doing, though you'll usually have your set formation you work within (ie: 4-3 vs. 3-4 vs. etc.). And the statistics bear that out, with defenses usually over-performing in the bowl season with additional time to prepare.

LA TECH is a team you could easily overlook

LSU comes to Austin in week 2. It will probably shatter attendance records and be one of the biggest games in years.

It would be human nature for Texas to ignore them in week one.

The Horns are definitely circling the calendar and will not look past LA TECH now.
