For those that want to keep Tee, this is a significant development. If I were to guess, Tee might be more amenable to less multi-year guarantees than his former agent demands for his clients. This would open the door for a re-signing with the Bengals. It's definitely not a guarantee, but between Burrow's press conferences and this development there sure is a lot of smoke.

It's going to take Burrow renegotiating his contract and taking less, or kicking in more years/money down the road.

But - you do NOT do this without knowing you HAVE to keep Chase....you don't let top 3 WR's go...you just don't. You also don't let them go and bank on another WR who's been available less than 70% of this career games. I like Tee, but he's a top tier #2, he's not a #1, he's nowhere near Chase as a #1 - and he's been less than durable. That's a trio of bad bets to make if they really do want to re-sign Tee. It has to be INCONJUNCTION WITH Chase being signed...NOT IN LIEU of Chase being signed.

Could there be a "package" deal in the works?

Tee Higgins will now be represented by NFL agent Rocky Arceneaux as he seeks his next long-term deal...same agent(s) as Chase.

They have set this up for the Bengals to succeed. Now, lets see how much our dumb club can fuck this up. This was a clear concession from the part of Tee Higgins to make it possible for him to stay with the team. There is no reason why the agent can't balance the priorities of the two players and put it in a framework that makes sense. But if Duke Tobin starts talking about pieces of pie and all that other bullshit, I'm going to puke.

Tee Higgins will not be here at the start of next season. you all know this. some team will pay a little bit too much for him, we will likely have a competition between iosivas, jones, and burton to see who is wr2 and gisecki will end up doing it anyway. we'll probably draft another wr because what we really need is 7 rounds of new defenders, but we're too stupid to realize that cuz we're duh bungles... der....

I suspect Joe had a huge hand in making this happen as well. His quotes to the media reflect as much.

This is 100% Joe (and JaMarr and Tee) putting the front office on notice in his own way. He’s not Aaron Rodgers who will throw people under the bus. He’s putting the ball in Katie and Troy’s court.

The problem agent is now out of the picture. JaMarr and Tee both want to make it work with the Bengals front office.

No more excuses. Get these contracts done. Or get the hell outta town.

If he's after the money - then I 100% agree.

But as I keep saying, smart #2 WR's realize they are #2's...and have a better career, longer career, and probably make more money if they stick to where they are a top tier #2, and not going somewhere that tries them as a #1 only to watch them flame out.

The road of #1 WR's is littered with guys who were some of the best #2 WR's in the game, only to fade into oblivion after deciding to chase the dollars and become a #1...Problem is - a top tier #2 is still a 20-30 #1 ... but getting paid like a top 10...and that causes issues.

if someone throws money at him, he'll sign.

otherwise, he has until Noverember 2025, he should be really nice and healthy with fresh ligaments, muscles, and tendons ready to go to the playoffs with a contender. if you can't get paid, get a ring.

I don't see Tee sitting out.

It honestly doesn't make a ton of sense because he might get a late contract, but it certainly won't be a long-term...which means he wasted a year of earning. If he's going to sit out like that, then he's going to sit out all year. Doesn't make sense to risk injury for a partial year payments...

I think in this case, Dan is not talking about money at all, but signing late in a year with a SB favorite to try and earn a ring before going after the contract which may be with a bottom level team and he may never get another chance at a ring.

Right, but it's intertwined.

A guy in his Prime should never waste a year of earning. Especially signing late with a SB contender for 1 year, risking injury for 4-5 games, and no long-term contract. You run the risk of ending up completely out of the game for 2 years...in your prime.

It's not a move I would ever suggest.

If you get to Tyler Boyd status, or Xavier Howard status - end of career, looking for 1 or 2 more shots at a winner...maybe a decent 5-8 game contract....sure....I get that.

If you are a Higgins or soon to be a Chase, middle of Prime time - you simply shouldn't follow this path, IMO.

I am just telling you what Dan was thinking, not saying it is right or wrong, just clarifying what I believe to be the meaning.

Right - and I'm telling Dan that the approach he's referring to is a bad idea for any player going into his Prime.

I think the Bengals might tag Tee, but I don't expect that they are comfortable with him playing on the tag next year either. His cap hit will be 26 million dollars. There are so many better ways to sign a 3 year deal that will lower the cap hit and allow you to spend elsewhere. The big catch for the Bengals is that most of those contract structures involved a boatload of guaranteed money - Particularly with Tee's former agent as his entire goal in life appears to be guarantees rather than overall dollars or fit. If Tee is now more flexible about how the Bengals pay him, I think they can make a deal. And I'll say this - If Tee is amenable to a 3 year deal, it would make him a FA again before he hits 30. And, even without a bunch of guarantees, a 3 year deal is basically guaranteed when you sign it - Hard to imagine a scenario where performance would dip so significantly that you wouldn't see the end of that deal, particularly given the cap ramifications.

And the other fact this is the Bengals, where they are some of the most loyal front office people in the business. I would say most guys see there entire contract.

Tee Higgins is good. He's good, but his injuries are mounting up. I wouldn't say that this year is his prime. he's had better years, that's not to say he won't have another good year, but he is not currently in "his prime".

if he gets the offer for 20+ million a year he will probably sign it, because he may never get another chance to sign for that kind of cash again, but if the offers aren't good enough, he can go to physical therapy and heal up to 100%. the deadline is in nov-2025.

also, if he gets with a team with a struggling QB and has to be their #1 receiver, it's not going to be pretty. he may struggle in obscurity, and he may be back here (or with another contender) at a discount.

Higgins is 25.

He's 100000% in his "prime" years. Prime doesn't relate to output, it relates to the age correlation on expected output.

Prime years are 22-28ish in the NFL for WR's....for some, they can push it out to, and past, 30...but there is a reason why many teams look at 30 as the hard line for big contracts, because they are no longer in Prime years. This holds doubly true for skill positions because 30 is where you start to see the body age a bit, stiffen up, and the speed start to wane. There are always outliers, of course...

All of that being said - I agree, the injury thing has to be concerning. As a #1 for another team - that has to be a major factor...for the Bengals as a #2...you can take that hit, if he missed 2-4 games a year. Chase is relatively healthy most years, and the depth is good enough to win if Higgins misses time.

yea. I mean, with 20 million in the bank from this season, he can afford to take a vacation.

when he's ready, he should ride up on a white horse and say, "who ordered a wide receiver"
but only when he's ready. he should not rush it. just because he's 25 doesn't mean he needs to risk being injured in training camp or preseason somewhere.

I think my final prediction is still that a team will pay too much for him and he would be stupid to turn it down; however, I had a thought. he would feel rather "at home" in Tennessee. He could likely join Tyler Boyd in Tennessee. Higgins is from Oak Ridge, TN. He also went to college at Clemson, so he could also consider Carolina or another southern team.
