That’s what I have seen with the 2 other teams I looked at beyond the Giants. The dogs have done much better (3 clear hits with 2 hot prospects knocking on the door) while the Spanks have done worse (1 HR pick, 1 decent pick with 3 prospects in the pipes) compared to the Giants (2 ”good” players, and a bunch of middling “noise”)
The Nationals might be an interesting one.

Ok, Let me try this exercise for the Phillies

2022-Justin Crawford - Too early to tell. He's related to Carl Crawford so that's good I guess. I wonder if he believes in Dinosaurs...

2021 - Andrew Painter - Ridiculous minor league stats so far, very highly regarded. So far so good.

2020 - Mick Abel - It's early but so far "meh" at Best. I really don't trust the Phillies judgement when it comes to high school guys.

2019 - Bryson Stott - Pretty good pick I think. Good shortstop/2b. Hit well in the minors, but not much in his rookie year. I love the .389 OBP in 3 minor league seasons so I think he'll eventually hit in the majors. Off to a good start this year.

2018 - Alec Bohm - Up and down hitter. Shaky defense (at best) so far, hopefully he improves. I think he'll hit ok though.

2017 - Adam Haseley - meh, had a couple cups of coffee in the majors, now in the Chisox minor league system. Seems like a bust

2016 - Mickey Moniak (1st overall) - Yikes, mediocre in the minors, pushed up the ladder anyway, so far has been brutal in the majors. WTF were they thinking. You can't miss this badly on the first overall pick. Another toolsy high school kid.

2015 - Cornelius Randolph- had some decent minor league seasons but now he seems to be in the Mexican Leagues.

2014 - Aaron Nola - Ok, this was a nice pick. College kid, up in the big leagues a year after he was drafted, solid top of the rotation pitcher.

2013 - JP Crawford - Good shortstop, still not a great hitter, especially against lefties but good enough on defense to be an asset.

2012- Shane Watson - Yikes . (in fairness, he was the 40th pick of the first round, but still.....)

2011 - Larry Greene - Out of baseball by 2014. Enough said.

2010 - Jesse Biddle - uhhhhh no

2009 - No first round pick. At least they couldn't fuck that one up......

So overall, yeah not good. I did forget about Nola and I like Stott and Painter looks good but in general, I'm not impressed.

2009- aaron crow after not signing with the Nats and sitting out a year. out of baseball

2010- christian colon #4 overall. they couldnt decide if sale was a reliever or not. shit career, but had the WS clinching hit in Game 5 in his only at bat in 4 weeks. out of baseball

2011 - Bubba Starling #5 overall . They wanted a SP, but there were only good ones at the top. Took the hometown kid over Rendon, Springer, Lindor. out of baseball

2012 - Kyle Zimmer #5 overall. always injured. out of baseball

2013 - Hunter Dozier. took him as a guy who would take less. Pretty shitty player. Signed an extension after his one good year. Pretty shitty player still getting the majority of PT because he makes money.

2014 -Brandon Finnegan. Came up the same year and pitched in the world series. Later traded to the Reds in the Cueto deal. Now pitching indy ball in KC

2015 - Ashe Russell - shitty pick. out of baseball

2017 - Nick Pratto - still a AAAA player and likely stuck behind Pasquantino unless he changes to the OF

2018 - Brady Singer - probably the "Ace", which means little on a shitty team. Probably has a good future, but likely with someone else, since we took him to arbitration over $300k despite having a good year in 2022

2019 - Bobby Witt Jr - jury still out, but this was the right pick at the time. Refuses to get on base, but when he does, good shit happens.

2020 Asa Lacy - has been hurt since he signed. I could get a walk from him. Shit pick

2021 - Frank Mozzicato - people hated the pick at the time, but he is kicking ass

2022 - Gavin Cross - starting OF of the future. Maybe this year

Not too hard to see why this team has mostly been uncompetitive since 2018

The Nationals might be an interesting one.

2009: Drew Storen (solid reliever for a while, but drafting a reliever at #10 overall is a reach)
2009: Stephen Strasburg (obvious pick at #1; injury issues, but a very good MLB pitcher when healthy; 127 ERA+ and 30.9 WAR, looks toasty now though)
2010: Bryce Harper (obvious pick at #1, very good if inconsistent in DC, looks to be on his way to Cooperstown)
2011: Brian Goodwin (1395 PA in MLB, 1.5 bWAR; meh)
2011: Alex Meyer (bust)
2011: Anthony Rendon (very good player in DC, has fallen off a cliff in LA
2012: Lucas Giolito (good, but value came in Chicago; brought Adam Eaton to DC, but got decimated by injuries)
2014: Erik Fedde (77 ERA+ in 454.1 innings; he sucks)
2016: Dane Dunning (traded to Chicago and then Texas; meh)
2016: Carter Kieboom (injury plagued)
2017: Seth Romero (cup of coffee in 2020, nothing since)
2018: Mason Denaburg (23-year-old pitcher struggling in A ball)
2019: Jackson Rutledge (has sucked in the minors, 24 years old in AA)
2020: Cade Cavalli (reached majors last year but had to undergo Tommy John)
2021: Brady House (got hurt last year, off to good start in 2023)
2022: Elijah Green (played well in SSS in FCL last year, struggling so far in A ball)

Rays 1st round picks from 2009 on are surprisingly underwhelming. Only a few of them have really done anything at the MLB level, and Snell is the only one north of 10+ WAR (and most of that came in one season). Even when the Rays had ten (!!) first+supplemental round picks, the only successful major leaguer was Snell.

I'm seeing Shane McClanahan as also a Rays 1st round pick in 2018. (31st). That guy is good.

Did you quote the correct post?

McClanahan was drafted by the Rays and by the Mets. He was never drafted by the Nats.

Yeah, barring injuries he looks to be the best. Then again, Snell looked destined for superstardom after his Cy Young season and he's struggled to stay healthy.

I think he just misquoted me.

Elvis was bad, but I think the true downfall in American values happened when Ed Sullivan brought those damn Beatles over here!

(see that's my thing, I just make observations while quoting other random posts)
