  • John Keim, ESPN Staff Writer
ASHBURN, Va. -- Highlights and observations from Washington Redskinspractice Sunday (the last full one open to the media this season):

  • Robert Griffin III did not look like a player suffering from any concussion-like symptoms. It’s not like he was laser sharp, but he also did not look appreciably different than he has throughout most practices. He also took off running on a couple occasions, including one time where he would have been sacked (he gained perhaps five yards as the crowd cheered). Another time he took off from the defense’s 25-yard line for a touchdown, though the defense had slowed after he took off. Griffin flipped the ball over his head as he sprinted into the end zone. It did not appear anyone was open.

  • At times he was getting the ball off in rhythm, getting to some checkdowns quickly as well. During a two-minute drill, Griffin took what was available with underneath tosses. There was one play where Griffin hit his plant foot and paused too long. Duke Ihenacho broke up a pass to tight end Je'Ron Hamm, prompting coach Jay Gruden to yell, “Too long! Too long!” But at times on this drive Griffin would hit his plant foot and deliver the ball; he showed nice timing on an out route to Ryan Grant.

  • Griffin threw a touchdown pass to cap the drive, but it came on a play in which he would have been sacked.

  • Liked Kirk Cousins' enthusiasm -- he’s been more demonstrative since the spring. Sunday, under duress, he backpedaled and lofted a perfect pass to receiver Jamison Crowder for a touchdown. After the play, Cousins ran over to Crowder and then ran to Gruden and jumped on his back. Cousins also connected with Andre Roberts with a strong throw on a skinny post in two-minute work.

  • Crowder returned and showed his quickness on a comeback route vs.Bashaud Breeland. Crowder created separation with his ability to stop and cut back quickly.

  • Ihenacho had some problems covering receiver during one-on-one drills. It was a good chance to see what he can do against them. Receiver Colin Lockettgot him off-balance on one route and Rashad Ross turned him around on another.

  • Rookie linebacker Preston Smith had a strong day in the one-on-one drills vs. the offensive linemen. Looks like he’s starting to think less, and it shows with his more fluid moves. He’s not doing it vs. starters yet, but he’s looking better against the backups than he did a week or two ago. Sunday, he used a swim move to beat Tom Compton, beat Willie Smith with speed, and then used another swim move to get around Compton.

  • Linebacker Junior Galette had some success going against Trent Williams, getting low and around him on a rush. Galette tried to go low the next time, but Williams was able to recover and push him to the ground. Galette sometimes gets a bit wide on his rushes during full-team work; at times it takes him away from the tackle. For example on one rush Sunday there was too much of a gap between he and Williams, so when Galette started using his hands they made no impact.

  • Didn’t like seeing tackle Morgan Moses get turned around on a one-on-one rush vs. Ryan Kerrigan. The linebacker got upfield quickly, hit Moses who then turned his back to Kerrigan, allowing him to win.

  • Tackle Willie Smith worked with the third team on the right side. Ty Nsekhetook the second-team reps at left tackle, with Compton a
willie smith taking 3rd team reps isnt good for him

Which then would mean that he would have also fumbled.

LOL on the last 2 posts, unfortunately I agree.

I am anxious to see Crowder and Gillette.

look i bashed Rg3 for his performance , now i am back in support mode . he will be our starter and we might as well expect the worst and hope for the best .

so here is my hope for the best . the skins staff is keeping him glued to the pocket in preseason to get the work in that he needs , when the season starts we should see it open up and cater to what he does best

the young o/lineman got a lessen last week . now lets see them apply the lesson learned

i am tired of dwelling on the negative we will have a better team this year just not quite there as far as being competitive year in and year out

Did you hear Mark Schlereth on the radio this morning? He pretty much took the side that much of the fault was on the QB for not recognizing where the pressure was coming from. I guess that should be expected from an OL but I"m beginning to reconsider my position here after hearing this. Maybe more on Griff than I originally thought.

The interesting part is at the end after trashing Griffin he said he think he is the QB to give the team the best chance to win because he has the most talent by far and he should be the starter. That's always been my position but I was surprised to hear it come after such a scathing report.

Can't you do both? I bash him for his performance, but hope like hell he pulls his head out of his ass and proves me wrong. I want him to be the best QB in the league. I just don't see him succeeding anymore. At least not with this team.
