I can feel somethin in the air this year, fellers.. maybe it's jest me farts, but I think Taylor's poised for a breakout season..

He seems to have a lot more of a drive to improve himself and take to coaching, and may have pulled his ass out of his ass..

That's all for now fellers, carry on

I think there was a turn around after Wisconsin game last year. I think he might of realized he wasn't all that and might need to work a little harder to be a good quarterback. That might be what Bo has seen in him and has been waiting for.

I don't know if he can do it but I do think he will give it his all.

As for taking hits that is all he did in his frosh year till he got hurt. Last year he started taking slides and I am sure he was coached to do that. We didn't see the breakaway runs and we saw slides but that was because we couldn't afford to have him get hurt again with nobody behind him ready to play.

I hope to see that open up again this year also.

Steven M. Sipple: Martinez's detractors provide 'fuel'

Taylor Martinez is aware that many folks — TV analysts, fans, you name it — think his throwing motion is, well, unsightly at times.
"We both take that as fuel," says Steve Calhoun, the Los Angeles-area quarterback coach who has worked with the Nebraska junior throughout the offseason. "I need to do a good job of coaching him up to kind of quiet down those guys."
Will Martinez significantly improve as a passer in 2012? It's a pressing question, because Nebraska coach Bo Pelini wants his team to throw more than it did last season. It's a pressing question because Martinez ranked 89th nationally in completions per game in 2011 (12.5) and had a rather subpar completion percentage (56.3).
Martinez apparently is working diligently to improve. The Californian trained with Calhoun during spring break, then for three weeks in May and again last week. Later this week, Martinez will participate in the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, La.
Still, my instinct is to remain skeptical.
Here's hoping Martinez proves his naysayers wrong.
Calhoun, who has worked with quarterbacks since 2004, is convincing when he says to expect improvement from the player formerly known as T-Magic.
"It's definitely going to be higher," Calhoun says of Martinez's completion percentage. "Because there'll be more balance at the top of his throw. He's going to be balanced. When you have balance, it translates into accuracy.
"The great thing is, he understood there was work he needed to do, so he was willing to do whatever to make those necessary adjustments."
Calhoun also is convincing when he discusses Martinez's potential as a passer. After all, Taylor was an excellent passer in high school, Calhoun says.
"He was just so dominant," the coach says. "But he kind of progressively got worse, from when I saw him in high school (to) when he was at Nebraska.
"That just comes from him not being able to have someone there to break it all down for him. The coaches just don't have time. And then there were the injuries (in 2010 to his ankle and toe). He was still out there battling. But when you have the pain, you're going to change the way you step toward your target and deliver the football."
Martinez has a strong arm. That's not an issue at all, according to teammates and coaches. The key is he apparently has improved his footwork. He now does a better job of transferring weight to his front foot as he throws, Calhoun says.
"If you think back to last season, whenever he was throwing the ball, everything was off his back foot," Calhoun says. "That's been a major change."
Calhoun, who played quarterback at New Mexico State during the early 1990s, wants Martinez to become more comfortable in the pocket. He wants him to realize that even though a rushing defender is a foot away, a quarterback still can throw a strike.
"If (a defender) comes within half a foot of Taylor, well, he runs a 4.3 or 4.4 (40-yard dash), and has phenomenal escapability," the coach says.
Nebraska fans no doubt want to believe Calhoun's encouraging words. They want to trust Calhoun's rather elaborate program.
"One day we'll work all the technical stuff, as far as footwork, changing weight, using the shoulders to help us throw, being consistent with our release point," he says.
During the next workout, Martinez will throw to receivers. The idea being to take what he learned techniquewise and put it into motion.
If Martinez's work with Calhoun pays off, Nebraska fans can thank former Husker All-America cornerback Ralph Brown (1999), who introduced his friend Calhoun to Casey Martinez, Taylor's father. Casey put Taylor in touch with Calhoun.
Calhoun stays in contact with Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck.
"If there is any particular thing he needs me to work on with Taylor, as far as what they're doing offensively, Tim lets me know and I can build it into Taylor's workout," Calhoun says.
Beck, who doubles as quarterbacks coach, has said it was difficult to find adequate time last year to work with his quarterbacks on techniques because Nebraska was busy installing a new offense. The pace was downright frantic at times, Beck said.
Calhoun, however, has plenty of time and detailed knowledge, not to mention incentive. Yeah, he hears the skeptics. Perhaps soon they will be eating their words.

Lets not forget he had to come out of his own pocket to attend 2 different camps, I'm guessing the bill wasn't cheap. At a time when lil bro could probably use the money for his own football stuffs.
I don't feel good bashing on the kid, but he makes it pretty cot damn easy sometimes. Maybe he's filled up on humble pie now, and can see a bit more clear that he's not the world beater the press made him out to be before last season.
In any event, it should be interesting to hear the practice reports when fall camp starts up, and see if it's all paid off for him.

You know it's gonna be nothing but "Taylor Martinez is looking like the greatest quarterback to ever play at Nebraska"

"Taylor is throwing the ball with authority"

"Taylor looks like a legit Heisman candidate"

"Taylor could lead Nebraska to an undefeated season with the way he's practicing"

:blah:

It sells papers.

Practice reports? You say that like the media can watch practice. The only reports will be what the coaches and players tell the media. Remember when Watson compared Taylor to Peyton Manning? How did that turn out? It isn't what sells papers. It is what will the line of BS be that the coaches give? We won't know anything until the UCLA game.

I seldom believe what the coaches put out there in the pre season, of course they'll butter everyone up good, it's their job. The whole, not having time to work with the QB thing, has a whole sack full of face palms ready to go with that. Some of the press guys have lets say, a different agenda, when reporting on the fall sessions.
Even after the OC we may still not know much, we sure filled up on KoolAid and then went home with blue balls after a trip to Madison as I recall, a whole lot of good that preseason did for speculations sake.

How much TIME is he going to have with taylor this year if the offense struggles and still doesn't "get it" as a whole????
