As per ESPN .....Oh yea!
Cashman is the GM of the year already.
Cashman is the GM of the year already.
155 Mil over 7 years
6th largest contract ever given to a pitcher... for a minor leaguer who's never thrown a pitch in the bigs.
Yeah such a huge gamble. Now since it is the Yankees I hope he is the second coming of Irabu.
That's two incredibly stupid 7-year contracts in one offseason. Yet, they let the best player on the market walk because of contract length. I'd like to know what the 2nd highest bid was. I have a feeling it was no more than 5 years, $90M.
If nothing else I will say the Yankees had an ineresting offseason. Certainly a completely new look for the team. Granderson and Cano gone, McCann, Ellsbury and Beltran in. The Tanaka experiment will certainly get a lot of attention. Whether or not all these moves pan out remains to be seen but it will be interesting.
Not to mention Arod.
If he shows up in Tampa, Spring Training will be a three ring circus.
I have never been one to root for a player to fail and I certainly won't do that now. Wish him the best over here and I am sure he will do well.
As for the "Cashman GM of the year" it is pretty easy with an unlimited payroll to sign everyone they want. I am not saying that as a bitter Mets fan I am just stating the obvious.
I am assuming Balfour or Rodney are next to be the closer?
Well, they don't have an unlimited payroll, unless you've been living under a rock the past year. Secondly, who is suggesting for even a moment that Cashman is GM of the year? Finally, they have a closer. If they want to sign another experienced vet as an insurance clause, that's perfectly reasonable, as long as they don't overpay.
