Hi all,

This lockout thing has really been getting to me. I've actually been avoiding the forums here for a few weeks just to stop thinking about it. To me, if I don't get hear that the lockout is over then I don't want to hear anything about hockey. Has anyone else been getting to this level of frustration?

If this shit lasts beyond the Super Bowl, I'm going to start going to basketball games and hoping for a fight to breakout.

like all hockey rumours, I try to assume the worst, and then get pleasantly surprised at anything else.
I figure the season is gone (or at least we miss a month or two). anything sooner, and its great.

what it boils down to.... it's just a game. fuck 'em all.
I have my life to live - if there is an NHL or not doesn't really affect the important stuff.

Exactly. I love hockey but I've learned not to lose sleep over it. Life will go on and I'll find other ways to spend money and occupy my time

It really does suck because it is truly the only sport I enjoy. But as stated above, it's just a game, I have been getting into reading and playing my guitar a lot more. I just have been keeping my mind off of it.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other sports distractions (CFL, NFL, Ryder Cup) and MLB playoffs are right around the corner. Spending more time with the wife rather than watching NHL hockey has certain benefits as well.

Pretty much what the Puckster said.

I would be infinitely more pissed off if I was playing in a local sports league and our season was interrupted by some kind of stoppage than I would be with the NHL season being cancelled/delayed/shortened.

There was a time when I might have agreed with that statement.

For sure, a game isn't more important than any real priorities, but that's the fun part. It's the distraction.

I posted this in a thread on the Devils board, but it fits here as well.

It's funny in a way, because I grew up in a house where sports was not paramount. My father knew what was going on but never really watched anything other than the Super Bowl. He always said that everyone involved made too much money and he worked too hard to just give it to them when they didn't care about the fans. As a kid, I was like "yeah whatever dad." I'm at the point now where I realize why he felt so strongly about it. I always knew he was right, hell we all do. But he actually backed up the talk and never went to a game unless I begged him to take me. And he never spent money on jerseys or memorabilia.

I think I love sports too much to ever give it up entirely, but these leagues are really trying to test me. They might push me too far one day.

I've been keeping busy with baseball and football. So, not too frustrated yet.

As I just went through every piece of gear with my son making a list of what we need to buy because he outgrew, and cleaning up what he can't use anymore to prep for the hockey swap, I can honestly say I do not give a shit what the NHL does.

I have hockey in my life. I'm coaching this year, assisting at a goaltender's clinic, and running at least half the stick and puck open skates at my rink. Plus, my boy has a real shot at Junior Jackets travel team this year, so that's a lot more playing time.

It's good to get back in touch with the game at a more grassroots level. Let the millionaires fight the billionaires.

I still have a game to get into.

I dont know what to do or say. we are getting bombarded with media crap and player crap and NHL team crap about 3 different view points. we cant avoid it. we can escape it. I fucking hate this. listening to daly, bettman and fehrX2 is disgusting. I wish they would just go quiet and alert us only on

1. when regular season games are cancelled
2. when winter classic is cancelled
3. when full season is cancelled

I suggest just going to #3. so I can allot my money elsewhere.

As much as I have bitched about living in a non hockey market, it has really helped me ignore this lockout.

If I didn't come here I wouldn't even know it was happening.
