Oh, and I agree on Trey. Either it gets done, or he plays. At 30, going on 31 this season, he simply cannot afford to sit out, IMO. Just not worth it. He'll want to show that he's worth every dollar he's going to request in F/A and it's going to be needed because teams are going to be wary if he sits out 6-8-10 games, comes back and only has a so-so showing...then you are looking at a guy who is 31 going on 32 in the first year of that new contract, and suddenly you start to wonder if those 17.5 seasons in 2023 and 2024 may have been the peak of his playing hill, and you are now paying for past production on a player who is going downhill in his career.

The only team that could possibly value future years off past production are the Bengals. If he drops off a bit in a new contract, they can just chalk the bargain up they got for him the least 4 years as makeup pay a little. The Bengals are not known as a team that is willing to do that, but that scenario would only ease their burden, not any of the other 31 teams looking to sign him. He is worth more to the Bengals, then anyone else, whether t hat means more pay from us or another team, his value is worth more to us versus anyone else.

A little different look today - would be a concern with no edge guy in this draft, so it would be highly dependent on where they felt they were with Trey OR it would mean maybe taking Sawyer in round 2 (who was available for this pick on my mock) instead of Watts. But, if you get Trey, and you get Watts, and you take the pick in round 1...suddenly the defense looks a lot better....a lot.

In reality - I don't see the round 1 pick falling, and I don't think that either Watts or Ratledge will be there in rounds 2/3 when the Bengals pick...so, likely an edge in round 1 regardless (or trade back), and then Ratledge would likely have to go in round 2, IMO.

Still don't think PFF has their algorithms correct where some of these guys are going to land - especially in rounds 2/3.

A lot of moves for a team that doesn't trade, but I like your thought process...and I agree...but there are other options for IOL, even if not Ratledge. The kid from Arizona is in the late 2nd to 3rd, he was an OT, but as a freshman he was an all-american at guard...he translates back to IOL at this level, but his calling is his pass-pro, which would be a very nice get. Typically getting him in round 3 of the PFF, so I think if there is a run on OL, you may miss Ratledge, but could get this kid...

Saw a draft day trade that would create the following scenario:

New England Patriots Trade:
#4 Overall pick = 1800 points

New Orleans Saints Trade:
#9 Overall Pick = 1350 points
#40 Overall Pick = 500 points

New England selects TE Tyler Warren.

New England Patriots Trade:
#38 overall pick = 520 points
#40 overall pick = 500 points

Cincinnati Bengals Trade:
#17 overall pick = 950 points
#119 overall pick = 56 points

New England selects OT Josh Simmons.

Not sure what I think about that. You are gaining an extra high value pick, but losing out on the top talents altogether in the 1st. That is a long fall from 17 to 38.

However, say we trade Hendrickson to Detroit or Indianapolis who are the two teams mostly linked with Hendrickson now....

I say we trade him for 2 picks. No one is giving up a first for some reason, probably because of his age and contract, but as Cincy78 said, a 2nd and 3rd and it is probably doable. However, I think it needs to be higher, so you split the risk with the trading team. You trade him for a 2nd this year, and a conditional 2nd next year depending on if he has 12+ sacks. If he fails to get 12+ sacks, it would be a 3rd round pick. So if he is producing for his new team, they are not losing out as much with that elevated pick.

That gives us 4 2nd round picks (hypothetically lets say it is Indianapolis):

#45 Overall
#49 Overall
#81 Overall
#153 Overall
#193 Overall

Would this scenario be worth losing Hendrickson and the #17 pick where there are some damn talented players on the board?

I like this, but would like to know who else was there in round 3 - just don't think there is a need for a RB that high. Brown is the starter and a 3 down back. Perine returns in the 3rd down/sub role. I think you can find a RB later, IMO.

I mean - maybe, but Brown is getting 90% of the carries. This isn't a RB by committee thing, and they already re-signed Perine. If RB was a need, I'd get it but with so many other holes to fill, just not taking a RB that early...at least, I would not. Just too many other needs on this team.

I've actually landed this exact draft before....different order, though because PFF....pfhffhfhf...lol

I would really like this draft. I still think I would prefer Ratledge at that spot (if available) if only because he marries the film, RAS, and combine type stuff...trifecta - but I am really big on Jonah's upside. Was a Freshman All-American at guard before getting moved. Still held up well enough at OT to be considered one of the better pure pass-pro guys in the draft.

Also like the DT pick. IIRC, Turner played a lot of 0-tech, but would be a 3-tech here to rotate with Jenkins. This gives you 2 big bodies for NT, 2 young pure 3-tech guys who can both help in the run, but bring pressure, and you still have BJ Hill as the veteran presence.

Would like a LB here as well...or even a DE earlier depending on Hendrickson moves...but as things currently stand, this would be a solid draft.

Now that I'm thinking about it - I think it was one of my own "Scenario" Mocks combined with PFF...in which I would have traded down - Grabbed starks, took Sawyer in round 2, took Ratledge or Jonah in round 3, and then took the DT with the second round 3 pick.

Regardless - it's a draft that I would be cool with.

With a ton of options at 17 - Houston offered the 25th along with the 58th to move up. I took that. Still landed Pearce. Was able to land Norman Lott with that extra pick. While grabbing Jonah at the original #2 pick, that means Pearce, Lott, and Jonah in the 1st two rounds, with the first 3 picks...that alone, IMO, makes this draft.

Moved from 81 to 98, picked up a LB and a pick at 116 that allowed me to grab a S. Right here was more about raising the floor of the team. Paul improves the LB room, and while Ransom isn't Emmorwarmi (or whatever) - he plays well in the box and will help this defense in run support when added with Battle, and allowing Stone to (hopefully) showcase more of why he was signed last off-season with a new DC voice. Restrapo adds depth at the slot with Jones, and Stout adds a nice late addition to the CB room with some needed depth as Hill returns from injury and Hilton moving on.

Overall grade from this model was a B+. I'll take it, even if I would have loved another player, or two, I liked fall to me with those extra picks (almost took Ratledge over Paul and wouldn't hate doubling up on IOL here, and scouring the F/A wire for a LB after the draft).
