According to my (extremely brief) research on the topic, the decision is yet to be made on Josh Gordon's potential year-long suspension. My league drafts this weekend, and I am considering using an extremely late (probably last) round pick on him, essentially taking a chance that it could be a waste of a draft pick on the off-chance that he is not suspended. Is this a risk worth taking? I feel like the payoff if he were to not be suspended (or had a reduced suspension) make it worthwhile to consider. Feel free to tell me I'm being an idiot.

He's definitely worth a shot imo. I'm currently optimistic that he doesn't miss the entire year.

And just look at what he did last year. He lead the league in receiving yards, after missing the first two games, with an amazing QB lineup of Campbell/Hoyer/Weeden. Worst case scenario, he misses the entire season and you end up wasting a low pick. Low risk, high reward.

He's worth a late round pick on the off chance he doesn't get suspended for 365 days. You should be able to get him much later than in a keeper/dynasty format. He went 4.11 in our start up dynasty draft that is drafting now. I wouldn't have touched him that high. But it would be worth the gamble if he can get his life on track. Because he's obviously a supreme talent to anyone you can draft at the end of the 4th round.

The only issue I see could be a team not showing up for the draft. Then they go off rankings and the CPU picks him up early in the draft. Unless they have knocked him down in the rankings. Haven't done a live draft this year so not sure on that.

Last pick is way too late to get him. Get him as one of your first bench players. How often do bench players stay on your team anyway.

In the mbbrl I drafted him in the 10th round. But I have seen him go as early as the 5th round(in expert leagues). Just like gronk, if you want him you better be prepared to take him pretty early.

Yeah I'll have to get him earlier than that I'm sure. I wasn't sure in my original post if this was a completely dumb idea or not so I wanted to get a feel for everyone's thoughts.

Also realize that if he gets less than a 10 game suspension after every week his trade value increases immensely. By week 7 he could very well get you a demarco murray value.

There's only one guy in my league that I think is smart enough to try to take him. Espn has him listed at 201 in the player rankings so I think I should be able to get him once I've filled out my roster a bit.

(Rotoworld)Profootballtalk reports there have been no settlement talks in the Josh Gordon case.
Analysis: It's now been over two weeks since Gordon's appeal was heard, but the sides have yet to come to the bargaining table. They still could, but it would seem to grow less likely by the day. Absent a settlement, Gordon is looking at an all-or-nothing proposition (16 games if the ruling is upheld, zero if it's not). Reports from last week suggested the case should be settled before the end of this week.

As much as I hate to say it (my money league plays into week 17 and what a stash he would be if he only got 10 games) I think anything earlier than 12th round is a wasted pick. I mean, do you really think he's not getting a suspension? But I do agree with everybody else as far as you will not get him in the last round.

Test positive for weed again: 16 games

Beat the shit outta your now wife: 2 games

Get busted w/ prescription pills not in your name, have a ton of money on you (wasn't it $25,000?) & rack up 4 felonies: Sheriff Goodell turns his back on Irsay & does nothing...

Waste of a pick if you take him. Would not bother. Id take a backup kicker first.

I'm of the firm belief that he's getting a full year. Or nothing at all. Most likely the full year. But, I have yet to have a team where more than 50% of the roster I drafted is still on the team by year's end. So even I would take a chance on him after I've filled out what I consider to be a solid starting team at all positions other than kicker, maybe D. Your going to drop guys whether they are your 4th/5th WR who's active, or if it's Gordon who ended up being suspended. No harm in taking the guy with the highest ceiling.

Team executives don't have a collective bargaining agreement with the NFL, and I can promise you Goodell placed a few phone calls to Irsay on the subject

Interesting that he's going in the fifth in "expert" leagues. Getting into game theory territory. I imagine those are essentially all-or-nothing money leagues, so somebody is thinking Gordon has a better than 1-in-12 chance of getting off completely and thereby gaining a huge advantage. If not, well, that owner will probably write off that league.

(By the way, I'd be happy to see Gordon get a year-long suspension - but I'd like to see him get it for his first-time DUI, which could kill somebody. Guess all he gets for that is a lecture.)

I would think 12th round would be to late. I know that's where he went in mbbrl A league but we play in a 2 WR league. Again, how many bench players stay on your team all season?? Why not go earlier for a stud on your bench. If you want him you should start thinking about taking him in the 7th.

Again, his trade value is going to increase every week and when trading season starts you will have one of the highest value guys automatically.

From what I have heard it's mostly in the high stakes leagues because it's so hard to win them. Since the odds to win are so bad, why not go all out??

Wouldn't surprise me. Maybe the conversation went something like this...

Sheriff Goodell: Now Mr. Irsay don't do that again okay? Because if a player did that I'd nail his ass to my office wall. But you're an owner & I work for you & don't wanna lose my job.

Irsay: I agree

Gordon does deserve to be punished, but a year? Basically what the NFL is saying is right now domestic violence & felony drug charges aren't as big a deal as smoking a little weed.

Speaking of suspended guys, what are people's thoughts on Ray Rice? Where has he been going in mock drafts and is he still considered the number 1 back there?
