Ruf has played in 69 games for the Phillies as an outfielder. He has zero errors! He does however have 2 errors at 1st base. Yes his range is limited due to a lack of speed but when he gets to the ball he makes the play. Basically he is a good fielder with a lack of range. We had Burrell and Luzinski play left field in order to get their power in the line up, why not Ruf!

because when ruf has had his chance to play, he has not looked anywhere near Pat the Bat or the Bull. add in the fact that with the defensive liability in center (revere), having a guy in left with a lack of range doesn't work well.

Ruf looked good in 2013. He hit with power and had a good on base percentage. He needs to play a full season. Revere makes great plays at times but can not
judge fly balls well. The out field needs fixing but it will not be easy.

The biggest drawback on Revere is his arm strength. He simply cannot get a ball into the infield fast enough to get runners out at home or elsewhere especially on deep balls. Ruf is a bit slow but his bat can be as hot as Revere's given the same playing time. Operative words here are "can be" meaning potential.

Ruf is 3 for 11 so far in winter ball. He has a homerun and a double. Hope he has a positive winter season there.

He's down there working hard to improve his hitting especially against RHP. He should have dragged down Howard and Brown with him so they could work on hitting to the opposite field, among other things.

Howard is an old dog stuck in his ways. Brown has always impressed me as an immature guy with head problems. Brown needs a new team with a different hitting coach if he is going to improve. IMO.
