Somebody did the math already and if the Hawks match, they're basically right up against the cap with only 15 players signed. I think the Sharks just got themselves a good, young defenseman.

The Hawks still have to sign Niemi (going to arbitration), but burying Huet in the minors will free up some much needed cap space.

and ive read and heard a few times now that even though this is not Bill Wirtz's Blackhawks, Rocky still refuses to pay a guy over 5.6 mill to play in the minors

I love the player, but I'm not sure I love the cap hit.

Can you say goodbye Huskins? ;-)~.....this alone makes the cap hit worth it now that I think about it, lol.

are we still talking about a 2nd round pick as compensation for these dollars?

I believe it's a 1st rounder + a 3rd rounder jstew in the 2011 draft...

This is correct. The Sharks had to do it at that price because they don't own their own 2nd Rounder in next years draft.

oh right second round tier went up to just over 3 mill

lol at the sharks only offering as much money as it takes within that 1st + 3rd compensation tier to price out the hawks match (as you posted dash)

i think edler and he are comparables ... (in fact maybe they are twins) and edler is at 3.25 so the cap hit isnt that bad.

The top heaviness of the sharks hurts their cap situation more

Wow, didn't think DWil had the stones to put an offer sheet out there. Has he signed Setoguchi yet? Karma may bite him in the ass quickly.

San Jose will have to dump an overpayed dman. One of Huskins at 1.7 Wallin at 2.5 or Murray at 2.5 will defenitely have to go. Possibly a forward too.

Another comparable might be Dan Girardi who signed a 4 year, 13.3 million dollar deal with the Rags earlier today...I think Sather also ordered a $12.99 pizza but paid $30 dollars for the pie.

Agreed. Seto said he has no desire to sign an offer sheet though per David Pollack of the SJ Merc. However, if a good team comes offering some nice money, that may change his mind.

Hopefully Huskeypants and Wallin are gone.....but why would Dougy sign Wallin only to trade him? I think Murray and Huskeypants may be on the way out.....probably to Toronto for Colby Armstrong so that the Maple Leafs can start the year with 6 forwards, 2 goalies and 12 defensemen.

Hey Dash, the Sharks now don't have a draft pick next year until the 4th Round, sound familiar.....;-)~

I cant believe Wallin makes 2.5 ... are they gonna have to take used jockstraps for him?

/on that note and off topic abit: in canuckland we have this Bieksa situation going on this offseason and its close to the same scenario as you guys had with Ehrhoff (or error-hoff as some of you put it last year - that was a good funny!)

Bieksa: fans are down on him, big defensive lapses, expendable because of a big signing/acquisition ... kinda like ehrhoff 2 seasons ago

so thinking back ... was the market for Ehrhoff that bad that Wilson couldnt get high draft picks back for him. I know Sharks couldnt take salary back because of where they were cap wise but Patrick White & Rahimi will probably never play in the NHL.

so back to the ehrhoff-bieksa comparison ... supposedly, 10 teams have inquired about Bieksa after Hamhuis signed (Sharks might have been one of them) and from the looks of things Gillis cant take salary back. Im hoping we can at least get a young prospect on d and a high draft pick for Bieksa but i could foresee the canucks having to take low picks and someone elses trash back for him

maybe Wilson will offer Rahimi and White back to the Canucks - lol

Yeah, I just wish the Sharks could have gotten him at a $3mil per contract since I'm sure he still would have signed it.....but like said, the Sharks couldn't do it because they don't have their own 2nd Rounder next year.

100% agreed J stew.

lol...I was offering a GM trade a couple of weeks ago (Sutter for DWil), but there were no takers. Seriously, though, this is a good move by Wilson, it certainly helps shore up the defense corps.

he may not have a choice. it's either that or lose a Bolland / Sharp.
