It just seems so ironic to me that two years ago - the Broncos brought the number 1 offense in the history of the NFL into the big game - and played the Seahawks with the consensus number 1 defense. Now - just two years later - the Broncos are at the Big game with the number 1 rated defense playing this year's number 1 offense. They say defense wins championships!

John Elway is a magician still.

What's amazing about that Mingo is how in two years the Broncos can go from #1 on offense to #1 on defense. That doesn't just happen. It takes some serious genius to make something like that happen. For the life of me I cannot figure out why so many Chiefs and Raiders fans expect this Broncos team to fall off the football map after Manning leaves. Have they not been watching how masterful Elway has been in building this team? Or is it just wishful thinking?

Chiefs and Raiders fans can suck it! It's great to be the King! Wait til the AFC West sees Oz with a full training camp under his belt as the starter. Should be good fun over at Arrowhead Pride.

I can already tell you they think Osweiler is simply a one-read QB, and are not that afraid of him. Would love to see him continuously burn those two teams with the naked bootleg Ala Jake Plummer.

The Importance of TJ Ward to the Broncos' Pass Defense - NFL Breakdowns

Very good and very detailed coverage analysis on TJ Ward's coverage on Gronk in the AFC championship game - and potential coverage on Olsen.

Olsen is the receiver who worries me most. I don't know how best to cover him, but perhaps Ward is part of that.

I do know that Ward is a thumper. Just hope that he and Talib (another thumper) maintain their composure and don't commit any costly personal fouls. I understand, however, that there is sometimes a tension between thumping and playing with composure.

True - True, but there is also a tradition in NFL playoff games to let the players play and be slow on the whistle - the Seahawks took major advantage of that in Super Bowl 48.

Thanks for sharing this. These are the type of articles that I love to read and watch. It does seem like TJ Ward while not the greatest in coverage has actually done really well against Gronk for some reason. The game where Gronk got injured by Ward even before the injury Ward was actually winning that battle. To me what I loved is when they had Gronk split out wide Ward always played outside coverage and they had a safety over the middle ready to cut off those slant or in routes that Gronk loves to run. Almost had about 2-3 interceptions just on having that coverage on Gronk. I could see them trying to do something similar to Olson with that Cover-1 Robber defense.

Apparently Sanders called CB Josh Norman a "media creation". While I disagree with that assessment, I don't object to Manny's fire, the fire that has fueled him to probably be our most consistent offensive playmaker all season.

Norman hits back at Broncos WR for 'spotlight' dig

Won't be at all surprised to see 10 get the better of Norman at least once.

If Peyton Manning is on - I expect DT and Sanders to have big plays.

Got to love these Corners who just love to talk. They seem to be the new Divas of the NFL. The Broncos have one too in Talib who loves to talk but this is why I love Harris all the more in he doesn't have to prop up his game. Yes he probably would have been more noticed for the amazing play he has had since coming into the league and probably would have a couple of All-Pro's to his name by now but he just quietly goes out and does his job at a very high level.

I would love to see the Broncos get a couple of big plays against Norman. To me you are not going to beat him over the top very often. It will be a quick slant play where he just is caught off guard and it goes for big yards after the catch.

Denver needs to weather the first 3 CAR drives since they will be seeing it live for the first time so there could be some shell shock. Carolina will get their chunk plays early because they are good at what they do but if Denver can keep it close by halftime I like their chances in the 2nd half.

This is how I am hopping this staff is approaching the game .. because no one love a flag fest .. bend a little and do what is needed to keep this low scoring

Aside from Gronk in last game and he got most of his yardage when Ward and Stewart were mostly out, no TE this yr has gotten more than 65 yds vs Denver in a game. I think they handle Olsen just fine. I'm more worried about Cams legs and our O than Olsen Sunday.

I think the big X-factor in this game is going to be how our O-line performs. They have to give Peyton some time in the pocket and they have to open some holes in the running game.

The rules state once Cam sets the ball into the RB's gut whether he hands off or not he's a RB and can be hit.
Watch for Denver to play to the maximum legal limit of the rules and hit Cam all day.

Also last 9 games , CJ has average over 5.3 yards a rush. I'm sure that is right near the top of the NFL.

I was wondering about this too: the read option opens up opportunities to blast Cam Newton into oblivion. Even if the Panthers make some gains, which they will, I hope our boys hit him extremely hard. I think it'll get to him eventually and can shape his judgment late in the game.

J.D.R. gone has a lot to do with it. The talent has been there for the most part.

I agree, with that. JDR was actually solid in 2013. Given his starters were all sitting in the training room and combined with Fox's health that year, JDR stepped up big and delivered a 3-1 record in the interim and got decent results with a defense that seemed to need to add an off-the-street player every week. But last year with an insane amount of talent and health he got lazy. He is not missed.
