I read a pretty good article on BGN on this subject. I can't provide a link, but I will summarize it here.

As most of us know from watching BU's defense this year… as well as last, their DC is aggressive. He plays a lot of Cover Zero, and likes to push players close to the LOS. One of the schemes BU will use is a 4-2-5… something TT would go to as well. I think TCU plays out of this formation regularly.

Against TT, the WVU O-line switched to more zone blocking in the 2nd half. With inside and outside zone reads, a RB like Smallwood… who has better lateral speed… might have more success finding holes when cutback lanes open.

Like Slaton said to me after the TT game, Shell is a power runner. He loves to hit someone… to go north to south and make contact. WVU has run a lot of power this fall. Makes sense when your best blockers on the line are from RG to LG. But, the BU defense will be harder to run power against because of the way they load the box.

With press man coverage, there will be opportunities for Alford and White to make big plays because there will be little help over the top from the BU safeties. Especially when WVU goes to a 4 and 5 wide set. The safeties will be forced to go man. Shorts and Thompson could have big play opportunities as well.

But, establishing the run will be necessary to keep the BU defense from pushing too far forward and putting too much pressure on the WVU O-line.

The author noted… watch the BU alignment when WVU goes single back. It will be used by Clint to decide play selection and where to attack. The 4-2-5 will allow for rushing yards.

Also need to mention, if BU has success getting to Clint… like what happened in the OU game… WVU will be forced to keep an extra blocker committed to stop the rush. As we saw in the OU game, this limits the passing game as WVU no longer can commit 4 or more receivers to the attack.

For those who thought WVU made no adjustments in the OU game, I guess you overlooked the fact that Clint went under center and WVU used a 2 TE set regularly to add blockers to help slow down the pressure from the OU pass rush.

I think the balanced the run-pass ratio is for WVU, the better result for us.
If we can't run, Baylor can stop the pass - we need to be able to mix it up. and keep 'em guessing.

Just as it is in every game, the play of WVU's O-line will dictate the success the offense will have on Saturday.

They have to do a great job in both the running game… opening holes, as well as pass protection. Clint is not as accurate when throwing on the move. IMO, the pressure TT got with their 4 man rush is why Clint's throws were off target last week. He needs pocket protection…

There are so many keys to this game, biggest one IMO is coming out of the gate flat....if we do not match their energy from the start it is going to be a long day.

Baylor is #10 in the nation against the run. Hopefully, we can change that stat.

Not sure how they rank this high..after watching TCU do what they wanted to on offense at will!

TCU went 41 for 139 yards.. About 350 passing. Baylor put up 300 more yards than TCU in that game.

TCU was very affective passing the ball against BU. I believe WVU will have equal success passing against them.

I was happy to see WVU's defense keep their cool last weekend. Heading into that game, it was one of my concerns. TT has a really good passing game. Our secondary gave up some big plays due to some missed assignments, but they did not lose composure.

Last year against BU, Patterson commented after the game that he was surprised to see his young defenders lose confidence so early in the game. They made mistakes that they had not made all season.

The TT game was a good one for this defense to get under its belt before facing BU.

They will have to stay in the game mentally despite giving up the big play.

I don't know guys I just don't think we have a chance in this one...I keep thinking one thing is my biggest concern and then I think of 5 more things when facing a team like Baylor. One thing that did give me hope is something B pointed out, Baylor is a little less effective on the road, hopefully that plays into of favor.

Don't forget how these Big 12 teams hate traveling to Morgantown. It is so out of the way.

Oh yeah… it is a noon kick-off. Like an 11am start for the boys from the Central Time Zone…

Lots of things going in our favor…

This game could be very close. Both Petty and Trickett can be streaky QBs. This will come down to whoever has the hottest hand.

I'm coming to town expecting a win.

It seems we are in agreement with this game. Establish a consistant running game, clock management and make some tackles along the way. I just hope there will be more blitz with pressure on Petty or he will burn WVU all game long.

Awesome, simply Awesome! What a total team effort in all aspects of the game. To think WV turned the ball over 3 times in the 1st QTR but still was only down 6 due to the D pulling out key stops to force 2 FGs instead of TDs. The game ball (and maybe the Belt?) should go to our Defense for shutting down one of the most prolific offenses in the country. Great to watch that game.
