So is Cravens the only player on the team that can pull this off? If so seems a little bit silly? considering we lost last year D for a full year and we replace with a maybe player.

Would you think they would have drafted this type of player somewhere in the draft?

I love Elway but this seems damn thin.

I think Su'a Cravens has been an under the radar acquisition in the off season, as the buzz has been about the addition of Case Keenum and the 2018 draft picks. He could end up being an MVP of the new additions for the Broncos this season. I'm very excited to see what he can do.

I think it was back when Nolan was the DC and McDouche was the HC that we had a lot of success with the Big Nickel...until something like 137 Safeties were injured and the D wore out. It was great when we were healthy though.

Safety Su'a Cravens is a game-changer for the Denver Broncos defense

I really enjoyed this read and explains Parks not being able to handle what TJ Ward did for us

Cravens is a Safety/Dimebacker on to himself and Ward could not do for us what Cravens can. Cravens gives us the ability to cover TE's and RB's out of the backfield, which is something that has killed us for years and be able to crash RB's like Ward did. Cravens will be one of the players I am keeping a big eye on this year and I hope to see him cause us to see a lot less of Davis on passing downs.

I agree though, Parks could not replace Ward, but he did not have to with last years D. That role was more relegated to Davis on rushing downs and our rush D was very much improved at the expense of our pass D. Cravens will hopefully not leave us as exposed this year as he is the more complete player over Parks and Ward. Then again, teams also would game plan going into plays that exposed Davis and Marshall when we went into "base" last year and would try to keep us in "base" for as long as possible, which is why I hope our new "base" D becomes the Big Nickel, it really is one of my favorite D's as I see it as more flexible than the traditional 3-4, especially with a player like Cravens.
