Derrick Coleman Jr

You may have seen his Duracell commercial, well so did at least one little girl from NY who wrote a letter to him about it.

And he responded back

And someone said Sports have no relevance in real life.

Here is the commercial that got her attention.

Well things like this will get 5 minutes of coverage while anything Sherman says will get days worth. The media doesn't tend to push stories like these. There will be others too, for both teams likely. You might get a quick blurb on some, and won't get others without going to local media.

It is a good story about Coleman regardless who the media feels to cover before the SB. Sherman will be discussed ad nauseam until I end up just tuning out until the actual game.....and maybe after if he is a factor. This game is about many players...not just one.

I have a friend who went to a mostly black high school. He told me the young black kids at the time did not see an education and schooling as a means to change their lot in life and so many of them failed. There have been countless efforts all these years to change that narrative amongst young people of any color. An education is hard work will get you where you want to be. That is the message Sherman takes into the school.

And that is the same message we hear over and over from all sides in society. The world is yours, all you got to do is apply yourself and study and make something of yourself. There really are no excuses. If you are too poor for school, you can find help. There are lots of people willing to step up and give you a hand.
Look up John Kitna and see how he is making a difference as a HS coach and teacher.
The NFL is full of great athletes who are also great citizens and give back to their community. We cannot change society from the top down. It has to start in the schools with the young people. And the Media only focuses on the latest sound bite that will get people to watch and give them ratings.
