According to both Ric Bucher and David Aldridge, talk has heated up between the two. I can't see why the Warriors would do this trade unless they get picks back as well. Jefferson has additional year on his contract at 9M. Doesn't offer much of an upgrade for us at SF.

Deal has been completed. Also included in a conditional 1st RD pick to the Warriors, per MT

Love that word - "conditional". Even if the Warriors get one of the Spurs' first-round picks, it's going to be somewhere in the late 20s, so it won't be a great pick.

Maybe Golden State can send a player to Utah and then negotiate a swap of first-round picks. Brandon Rush? Dorell Wright? Likely won't happen, but a guy can hope.

I'm willing to see how the Ellis-Bogut trade works out. But this one I don't know about. An extra year of a fading Jefferson at something like $9 million, simply to get what must be a late 1st round pick?

Good point.

Anyone know how many years Jefferson has on his contract?

And does this look any better?

Said condition is supposed to not really apply. Most likely they said it's lottery protected or something like that. The Warriors have also purchased a 2nd rd pick from the Hawks. Most likely we'll have a pick in the 25-30 range, a pick at around 35 and a pick late in the 2nd. Maybe we can package all 3 to move up if someone slips to the late teens. Wishful thinking, but we'll see.

Jefferson has 2 additional years past this one. I believe he's due 9M next year and close to the 11 after that.

Seems like a good deal to me. ShotJax was worse than useless, he was going to be a huge problem. Jefferson is a mature veteran presence in a suddenly younger locker room. Add in a first rounder in a pretty deep draft and it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Jefferson has one year longer on his deal than ShotJax. And yes, that deal looks good. Then again, I'm a big Bogut fan.

I am not happy with the idea of paying Richard Jefferson for 2 additional years beyond this one just for the right to get rid of SJax.

But Richard Jefferson is a true professional who will not complian if he's not starting. The guy will earn his paycheck by being a serviceable backup and by helping teach Klay and Dorrell how to be better basketball players.

So it's a tradeoff.

THIS. Jefferson has had success and knows what it takes to be a winner and compete on a winning team. Hopefully he can provide some insight to these guys.

That almost never happens in the NBA. In the NFL, sure, but not in the NBA.

It is a nice benefit that we have the Nets 2nd rounder from the Avi trade, though. Instead of picking 40, we pick 35. Not that second rounders make much difference, as our history shows:

2011 -- Charles Jenkins
2010 -- none (Armon Johnson)
2009 -- none (DuJuan Blair)
2008 -- Richard Hendrix
2007 -- Stephane Lasme
2006 -- Kosta Perovic
2005 -- Monta Ellis
2004 -- none (Vicktor Sanikidze)
2003 -- Derrick Zimmerman
2002 -- Steve Logan

That's a decade and only Monta to show for it. Not sure other teams fare much better in the second round.

Looks to me like the Warriors traded a second round pick for the first overall pick. Nice trade-up. (Of course that's only from the perspective of overall picks because I did not like the deal from a basketball point of view).

And let's not discount Charles Jenkins yet. The kid looked pretty good against Sacramento. He could be a nice player if given time to learn.

If Jackson was worse than useless, than we shouldn't have done the Bogut deal in the first place. Evidently we had no idea we'd be able to turn him around that quickly, or else the front office wouldn't have been falling all over itself claiming that "we want to keep him", "Jackson wants to coach him". And a 25ish first round pick is no sure thing, usually not much more than a scrub, even in a "pretty deep draft".

Add in the extra year on Jefferson's contract, and I don't at all see it as a "no-brainer". On the other hand, I'm definitively on the fence about it. Jackson's got some mileage left in him, but Jefferson's pretty much done. But on the flip side, like you say, is the pick and the fact that Jefferson's not going to cause problems...and with Jax, it's more a matter of WHEN he blows, not "if".

Ehhh, I guess if the pick turns into a decent player and Jefferson can get us thru this year and then we can spin him off in yet another deal, then I guess it'll be ok. Jeez, I can definitely feel those fencepoles sticking into my bum.

The second round pick we bought from ATL is the lower of their two second round picks. The other one in play came from Phoenix. So it will be a pretty low pick.

We really need to go on a very long losing streak. BADLY. If we get a top 7 pick to go with our others then we can do some moving and shaking.

Agreed and likely. I don't see more than 6 wins (mostly Sac and NOH) remaining on the schedule. Hopefully, 24-42 is bad enough.

I don't know about that. I think the W's were pretty certain they could deal him. The public posturing was in case the Spurs deal fell through.

This won't happen. We are sitting at 11, and we could fall to 9 if both MIL and NYK make a playoff push. However, we won't be able to fall much farther than that. CHA, WAS and NO are unreachable. SAC, TOR, and NJ are pretty much locks to finish below us. The only hope we have is for DET, CLE, NYK, and MIL to all pass us. Every single one of those teams would have to pass us.

Odds are less than 10%, IMO.

That would be a .363 winning percentage, which would currently place us 7th. However, I don't expect either DET or CLE to finish with more than 24 wins.

Edit: I see 7 more wins on the schedule, for a total of 25. I think we'll finish 9th. And that's if NY pulls it's collective head out. Linsanity indeed.
