I read that he plays like his father and takes a lot of penalties. Hopefully the Devils penalty kill success continues for years to come.

He'll settle down. Teens playing hockey are always trying to kill each other at that age.

Like I said in the other thread, Uncle Lou is like the honey badger. Never thought for a second he'd pass on someone like this because of something that happened 20 years ago. The scouts obviously love what this kid could potentially become. I hope he's a decent skater.

Can't find too much video on youtube, but someone needs to teach this kid to stand right in front of the net and make goalies cry. Should be fun to watch.

Can't really blame him for not drafting a goalie...both the good ones were gone before we made our first selection

He isn't as big as his father yet, but they say he is definitely a better skater, plus has more skill.
He should fit an aggressive forechecking team like the Devils. He is strong, likes to hit, and can put the puck in the net.

His name will now be linked to whether or not the Devils should have waived their first round pick this season for the Kovalchuk contract. Jury is out.

He could be great and I'll still hate him. I really don't see his play impressing me enough to forgive his name. RP is right, the jury is out, but I probably would have let this pick go.

He's a C too?

Thought we were well rounded at C if Henrique is there. Does this mean the Truth or JJ are moving to wing?

He is a left wing.

Anybody else think the Devils took a huge gamble to keep this years pick because they figured some player would fall into their hands at 29?
Wondering if it is a guy like Jankowski, who was supposed to drop to mid 2nd round if not later, but who has potential to be better then anybody in this 2012 draft.

I just don't see that gamble being a Matteau.

I'm not sure what Lou had in mind. Maybe he just doesn't want to give up the pick until he absolutely has to? Maybe he was working on a deal that required a first this year and it fell through? Maybe there were a couple of guys he figured would be around at that point that he figured were worth keeping the pick for? Only he knows for sure. Time will tell if it was the right move.

I'm guessing Lou penciled in losing the 2014 1st round pick immediately after the ruling came. It's a lot easier to plan around the loss if you know well beforehand of whats happening. Only a truly terrible draft pool would make him think twice about dropping the other picks.
