Half a century after he was the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL draft, Mean Joe Greene will get some recognition on draft night.

The Steelers have announced that Greene will be in Nashville on Thursday night and will go to the podium to call the team’s first pick.

It is special,” Greene told the team’s website. “Since my draft day, more than 50 years ago, to be here and to announce the Pittsburgh Steelers No. 1 draft choice is very humbling, very humbling.”

Players didn’t attend the draft in Greene’s day, and he admits now that he was disappointed to be going to the Steelers, who had only won two games the year before and had never won a championship.

“I got a phone call,” Greene said. “I was at my dining room table. Me and [late wife] Agnes. I said ‘Agnes that was someone from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They drafted me number one.’ And I didn’t want to go to that team. I didn’t know any better. All I was dealing with was what I had seen on television. The record. It wasn’t one of my favorite teams. I liked the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Dallas Cowboys. They were winning then.”

Now Greene is a Hall of Fame Steelers player who went on to have a long post-playing career working for the Steelers, and he says he’s looking forward to meeting their first-round pick.

“I will be sure to let him know that this is the best organization in the National Football League,” Greene said.

That will be a special moment for some young player on Thursday night.

While that’s good in theory, money always changes people. I remember reports when they signed AB to his first contract and let Wallace go, they were touting ABs character.

Hopefully their analysis in the ‘character department’ has come a long way since then. Looking at the class of 2017 gives me optimism. Still, the team has to do right by these players.

Let’s be honest, do we really think Tomlin will change his workhorse approach? I honestly don’t think so. Did Colbert mention anything about it? I missed his latest presser

A leopard won't change his spots, we all know this. BUT there is no excuse for Fitch to come up with bullshit like, 'I forgot about the running game.' This running trio can't be ignored, probably the best running trio ever in the Burg.

I haven't seen the most recent presser from Colbert, checking my Steelers tv channel now....
The coach Faulkner interview on Snell....damn, Faulkner seems very excited about him....
Anyway, whatever Colbert says IMO is moot.....not that he doesn't know what he's talking about, but once they get on the field, you and I both know what Tomlin says goes. He still has far too much control over his coaches. He needs to let his coaches do their thing and only, ONLY step in when there is a concern.

Well we know Rooney has declined to talk extension with Tomlin, which is rare for successful coaches in Pgh. So I have to wonder if Tomlin is going to take a lot of these types of decisions close to the vest. He’s on the hot seat and every decision he makes this year will decide his fate in 2020 & beyond. He knows it’s tough sledding outside of Pgh so he’ll probably be a bit more egotistical this year in his approach (if you can believe it).

Watching the most recent presser with Tomlin and Colbert......you can really see a different Tomlin.
He is just as you said, keeping things close. Colbert said nothing about Snell as a starter, said he's got a natural gift of seeing an getting to the second level....that was pretty much it. They are definitely looking Diontae Johnson as special teams specialist. Said he's got a great raw natural talent for returning kicks.

But as its always said Tomlin as dumb ass he is, he still makes himself look smart with his big bullshit words.
Big words to confuse people into thinking he knows his shit, yet we know he doesn't. He helped hired these coaches, he needs to let them do their thing and hold them accountable, not meddle in their shit. But he can't do that. And after Rooney said he wants a replay coach, Tomlin has yet to hire one.....that alone would be enough to get him no contract offer, imo.

Oh boy.....

Another kid whose career they can destroy with lies

#RSRSUCKS
Why does it feel like everyone & their dog are running to sign with Rosenhaus this year? Tells me that everyone wants to maximize their value at all costs. Which I understand, you know, careers can be short and you want to leach as much as you can off the NFL's tit while you're effective. But the ethical dilemmas he represents is bad for football. The CBA needs to be renegotiated fast so that Agents can't do these things anymore. Hopefully that happens soon.

Team owners need to start taking a stand as well.
Telling these idiots we will not pay crazy amounts of money for players I'd a start.
No one is irreplaceable.....back in the day Pittsburgh believed VERY strongly in this.

Something I don’t think Mr Tomlin has a very firm grasp on.
