I will probably end up starting Wainwright tonight, but I'm still curious what others have to say. I drafted him intending to start him every time he goes, but he has a history of pitching poorly against the Cubs, including his two starts against them this year, in which he has given up 10 earned runs in 12 innings. Add to that that St. Louis just hasn't scored runs anywhere near like they did last year and that Cubs starter Jake Arrieta has been good historically against the Cards, and I'm just not sure that starting Wainwright tonight is a smart play. What do you think?

doesn't matter if the cubs historically rock wainwright or not... There is no reason to ever not start him as long as he is healthy... Should not even be a question... You have to live and die by your studs...

That's pretty much my thinking too. Then again, the old saying that "discretion is sometimes the better part of valor" isn't entirely without merit.

Personally, I would start him. I think your decision depends on how you answer this question:

What would bother your more?

A. You start Waino and he gets shelled
B. You bench Waino and he pitches a gem

I would be more pissed at myself if B happened, so I would start him, but I think you are wise to at least think about benching him.

Im in line with TLance here. Nothing has frustrated me more than when I've over thought and benched a top player on account of the matchup. Unless you have concerns about a top player physically, I say leave them in.

meh. Hope he is alright. Strange for big man to get pulled after only 93 pitches and six innings.

It's a low pitch count, but he was pulled to pinch hit Jon Jay in the 6th inning when the Cards were down 2-1 with a runner on 2nd and one out. Jay walked and the Cards scored 2 runs in the 6th.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't see the game and I sometimes forget about NL ball.
