Marte for Choo, would you do it?

I don't think Choo is worth that much. Arb. eligible in 2013, and Free Agent in 14(Scott Boras). Can't hit left-handed pitchers all that well, and he is pretty much below all of his career averages, this season.

Looks too much like a clone of Garrett Jones to me. I don't think the Pirates would benefit from this enough to give up Marte...... my .02 cents

Don't see the Garrett Jones comparison, as Choo has had an OBP .400 multiple times, and is right around .380 this year. Jones doesn't have anywhere near those OBP skills.

OBP doesn't really thrill me when we're talking about a corner outfielder. I want power in return if they were to move Marte. Choo has a career high of 90 RBI's. Jones has a career high of 86. Choo has a career high of 22 HR's. Jones has a career high of 22.

Both struggle against left-handed pitching, and neither of them have driven in more than 90 runs in a season. That was the basis of my comparison.

In 103 fewer AB's this season, Jones leads Choo in both RBI's and HR's.

My other dislike of Choo is Scott Boras is his agent. Bucs would get one more season out of him after which time he would most likely be gone.

Perhaps this discussion has become moot. The acquisition of Travis Snider PROBABLY signals that the Pirates have no interest in trading Marte for Choo.

But, in reply to element's original question, I don't think I would make that trade. I'd love to have Choo, and he would fit well in the leadoff spot, but I'm biased toward home-grown guys. The difference in years of control is the key parameter for me. I believe 6-1/3 years of Marte will be worth more than 1-1/3 years of Choo.

Understand your point, but the difference between Jones OBP and Choo's is almost 100 points, which is a gigantic difference.

But since the Pirates just acquired Snider, they most likely won't be acquiring another bat.

I agree, I wouldn't do it either, but the two players straight up for each other would be a pretty fair deal, IMO. Although I'm not as high on Marte as most, especially since seeing him play regularly the past fewd days.
