Matt Barrows ‏@mattbarrows

Initial diagnosis for Joe Staley is sprained MCL, same injury that Mike Iupati is dealing w/. Staley will miss next week's game v. Seattle.

Yup, I take this news as good news. If he misses a couple weeks, thats not so bad. I was really worried about a season ending injury which obviously would be huge if we get into the playoffs

Hope Staley recovers quick... sitting him out vs the Seahawks sucks balls... I'd think he'll miss the TB gm as well which shouldn't be too bad..

get well mean Joe!

Honestly, the biggest issue by far is the effect on the OG situation. Let's hope Iupati is back by next week.

At least they have week to prepare together knowing that Staley will be down.

I thought the meniscus was cartilage in the knee.

You are correct

Most times they cut off the tear and smooth if out a few weeks later ready to go

But if not much cartilage left they will stitch it and hope it heals itself. It does not grow back so they try to save as much as possible. But if stitched it takes several months to heal

Brandon Roy did the first and now has bone in bone in knee and no jumping or running ability

NBA players who have meniscus tears say they are harder to deal with pain wise than an ACL tear and you never recover strength fully

It is why a few years ago Edwards tore his meniscus the first game with the niners after looking great early on then ended up sucking and getting cut and not recovering ever. If he tried stitching it up he would have lost the year and not his career

Glad it's just a sprain. We need him back and healthy for the playoffs.

If we lost him for the year we can say good night to the season.

My biggest question is what in the hell is going on with Kilgore? We've effectively lost both starting OGs. I figured he would be our first interior OL off the bench, and instead he's the only one not getting much action. It's possible that he's been focusing primarily on center, so they thought the other guys would be more solid on assignments. Still, it's something of a concern to me. I figured he had a good shot of being our starting center next year.
