My biggest question is what in the hell is going on with Kilgore? We've effectively lost both starting OGs. I figured he would be our first interior OL off the bench, and instead he's the only one not getting much action. It's possible that he's been focusing primarily on center, so they thought the other guys would be more solid on assignments. Still, it's something of a concern to me. I figured he had a good shot of being our starting center next year.

maybe it is saying Looney is a better OG, has a higher ceiling? don't know but thinking if so, no problem here.

Staley looks like he will be out against Seattle. I want to give credit to Boone. Thank god we signed him because this guy can play Tackle. He held the sack leader to 3 tackles and 0 pressures. That is a great job.

agreed, he moved out and played like he was there all along. so huge as we continue down the stretch.

so who will Baalke add to back up the OL? it would have to be an OT, obviously not a 'big name' but an OT. or will Snyder be the back-up OT?

Yeah I had a very similar thought to this that I posted in another thread. Seems odd/concerning that Kilgore wasnt the next man up.

The 49ers will have to throw the ball and they may be OK with the Seahawks missing Browner and Thurmond.

From Barrows:

Asked why Looney, and not Daniel Kilgore, was given the job at right guard, Harbaugh said that while Kilgore splits his practice repetitions at center and guard, Looney has been practicing exclusively at guard. He plays a lot of right guard in particular because the starter there, Boone, is the team's emergency tackle.

Kilgore also has a steady role as an extra offensive linemen in the 49ers' power-running packages.

why is it "odd/concerning"?

if Looney is the better OG, then shouldn't he go in?

Odd for me because I thought Kilgore was our top back up lineman, and he did look good in very small amounts of playing time over the last couple of years.

Concerning because maybe Kilgore isn't very good. I had fairly high hopes for him and thought he would be a part of our future line.

And yes, if Looney is the better player, than absolutely he should go in.

I believe it's as Harbaugh said in that Looney was probably a better option since he was more mentally prepared.

Kilgore I would imagine focuses on Center and his role as an extra lineman in jumbo formations than he does on Guard.
