I like that kid Matakevich. He isn't a combine warrior, just looks like a football player to me. Tough as nails.

  • This past season, I've been very intrigued by Braxton Miller the WR. I was not a fan of him, as a QB. I didn't realize he was 6'2 215lbs. I thought he was smaller. He can really move for someone that size. I'd take him in the 2nd or 3rd round.

My only problem...when did this ever work? There is no way I waste a second or third on him. I wouldn't touch him until the fifth unless he has a freaky combine.

As for DL prospects that I want for #21 are Reed and Nske. The dline is loaded for talent this year.

A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

We can only hope like fuck that this kid falls to us if we are dead set on a D-lineman. While I think Reed would be solid, and Nske has solid talent yet some issues, Robinson just has that look that tells QB's "By the end of the day, thou shalt be my bitch!"

Aside from a true stud WR with some size, Robinson is my early wish from the draft. Should he be there and we take him, I think I would actually be more stoked than last years first round pick.

Keim...

McCloughan is in Mobile, Alabama, of course, for the Senior Bowl (practices began Tuesday) and this gives him a chance to do what he does best: scout. But it won’t just be about 40-yard dash times or how they look on the field. When McCloughan talks about players he's hit on in the past, typically it's not about what he saw on the field -- many can see certain skills. Rather, it's about what he learned in conversations with other coaches or what characteristics he saw from practices that might not show up on film.

It’s no coincidence that the Redskins drafted three players from last year’s Senior Bowl: linebacker Preston Smith, receiver Jamison Crowder and offensive lineman Arie Kouandjio. No scout should ever just go off talent and skill alone -- and one of McCloughan’s best qualities is establishing relationships and getting a feel for who he wants in the culture he’s trying to create. Look at the players drafted last year: all fit a certain mentality. McCloughan alone didn’t find these players, but he does have a knack.

The three players Washington drafted who played in the Senior Bowl weren’t from small programs who were suddenly discovered. But seeing a guy like Crowder all week let McCloughan know that, despite his size, he was a worthy pick. Crowder is listed at 5-foot-8 and that might be pushing it, so the chance to see him up close was important.

Crowder ended up catching 59 passes; Smith recorded eight sacks. Kouandjio wasn’t needed this season, but his competitiveness -- and nasty demeanor -- was evident during Senior Bowl practices, backing up what he showed on film. He’s someone to watch over the next couple seasons.
