The Mariners traded Jarred Kelenic to the Braves in December for pitching prospects Cole Phillips and Jackson KowarPhillips had Tommy John surgery last month and Kowar will get TJ surgery next week

I don't know if we could say he HAD "real value." Sure, he picked up steam after a long wait at first, but for a prospect himself, he wasn't that effective.

Still, just our luck to have both guys we got in trade out for who knows how long...

He had value prior to proving he didn't. When he was a prospect with the Mariners and was still in the minors teams asked about him and that was when he had value. We wanted to see if he would live up to it and obviously he didn't. The bad thing with that is we were the one organization who saw him on a daily basis and yet still made the wrong call. You have to know your players and we get it wrong way too often. Great teams like Braves and Rays know who to keep and who to trade and when to trade them at their peak.

I haven't followed close enough this spring, but that was his 2nd half last year so no real surprise. I say every year the same thing, Rays know talent as well as anyone in baseball so if they are giving up on one of their guys there is a reason.

Reliever Tyson Miller has impressed the Mariners with how much he’s embraced their pitching input. Lot of similarities to Paul Sewald in terms of arm slot and pitch profile.
