I like how JDD plays between the pipes...He should be playing for the Oilers in the NHL, yet the brain trust in Edmonton still harbors hopes of making the playoffs.

Is he still Oiler property?
I thought he performed admirably in the few games where he was forced into the shooting gallery.

Is it safe to say that the Cup wasn't named after Dr. Egon Spengler?

I wouldn't rule anything out. I think I saw some Ghostbuster advertisement on the referee's helmets.

scooooore

Yeah, he's down in Oklahoma City, but they released him to participate in this tourney.

just watching the final now (was on at 3:30am my time).

Canada vs St Petersburg, the teeam that beat the Hurricanes 5-1 in preseason.
Afinogenov, Yashin, Wienhandl (the original Sedin triplet), Vishnevsky, Semenov, etc

St Pete draws 1st blood 8 minutes in.

The St Petersburg owner (Medvedev) has chartered a plane from St Pete with a huge entourage, helicoptered into Davos. He's rented a huge tent near the arena to hold a New Years' Eve party. You'd better believe the players want that to be a happy party.

Micky Dupont might just earn himself an NHL job with this tournament.

Dupont ties it up midway through the second.
sneaks down from the point, takes a beauty pass from Pittis.

fucking Russian gets tripped, stays down like he's been shot.
good god damn I hate that.

bah... Russia retakes the lead (Yashin) on a 5 on 3.

it was literally the weakest interference call I have ever seen that gave them the 5 on 3.
given the guy that's in the crowd with his helicoptered-in entourage..... it makes the tinfoil hat tingle a bit.
not saying nothin' or nothin'.....

Afinogenov with some dangle to make it 3-1
huh, so that's what happened to Sergei Brylin.

Canada starting to tire after the short turn-around.
uphill climb now....

aaaand another interference call where everyone on the ice (both teams) is looking around wondering what the whistle is for.
tinfoil hat starting to pinch now.

mmm... "hot Russian redhead in the crowd" alert.

Canada gets one late to make it interesting 3-2, with 80 seconds to go.
St pete with an EN to finish it up. Congrats.
too bad... Canada popped another with 6 ticks left. 4-3 final.

St Pete is heck of a team, and Canada just ran out of gas - had to play a noon final today, and the late semi-final last night.. how's that for scheduling?

St Pete owner Medvedev is also head of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation? wtf?
that would be like Gary Bettman owning a team. oh, wait.

A good showing by the Canadians at the Spengler Cup this year, that was a pretty tough schedule that the lads faced.
