How is the Mets roster and farm club. With the way the Yankees have a steady supply of replacements and should be good for all of the term Soto signed for I don't have the conviction that the Mets will be good for more than two or three years of his contract. But I don't know if they (Mets) are better run now.

This just says a lot about Soto. He cares more about the money than winning.

Mets vs Philly and Atlanta will be fun. But none will get to the ws as long as the dodgers are there.

good question... i guess by some of my logic in that post, everyone should want to go to the dodgers...LOL...

but my point is that the mets still need a lot to compete with these teams, and there is a lot of potential ways for it to backfire... More so with the mets than other teams.... as the mets really dont have a good rotation yet... their offense is very solid, but they might not even resign Alonso...

Really the Yankees were the obvious choice for him to go to... and the Yankees were close in offer... so it was all about contract and not about winning...

He is a no question OMG player, who is only 26 years old, and is now on his 4th team.

That tells me a LOT about the man.

To be fair, two of the teams traded him. Of course, it was because of the money, but he didn’t walk away from the teams and it wasn’t because of attitude (that I’m aware of)

2 teams had him and they realized that they COULD trade him. They didn’t look at him and decide that he was untradeable.

washington is not fair... but i get your point... and agree... but then again, maybe the fact that he has been on 3 teams already before now, is why he feels he has no loyalty to a team...

Fair

But regardless how/why it started, it is who he is; a mercenary. He has every right to be a mercenary. More power to him. But that doesn’t tend to ingratiate players to fan bases.

Snell threw a no-no for the Giants in ‘24. But he will be booed mercilessly every time he makes an appearance in SF the rest of his career.

i wanna see what Cohen does with the mets now... now with Soto, they have to push everything they have into the pot, all or nothing... all cliches but it really is what the mets have to do now...

if Corbin Burns is not a Met, then the mets failed...

It is pretty much expected for teams like the Nationals to ship off any good player who is going to cost a lot really soon and ship off said player at the peak time (assumed peak time) to get the biggest return possible. It doesn't matter what kind of character that player is, he is going to get traded. Conventional wisdom dictates it.

As for the Padres, there was a big shift in organizational philosophy once the owner who drove the spending died. The team has suddenly gone from big spenders to trying to cut costs any way possible. That trade also reflects more on the team than the player.

Bottom line, I don't think the 4 teams in a young career automatically means Soto is a self centered mercenary any more than most MLB players are who are free agents. That being said, it will be interesting to see how Soto handles things if the Mets suddenly get really bad and are not spending more money. If he pulls an A-Rod, then that will change my thoughts on him but, for now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt (and be glad he is neither a Dodger nor a Yankee).
