I am fascinated by the prospect of a shortened "season" (76) .....it won't be a "season".....it will be a "race" out of the gate...like a horse race.
In a normal 162 game season...there is time for multiple weeks of a team being in a losing slump...and still time down the stretch to catzch your opponent....sometimes even resulting in a game # 163.
with only 76 games....there will be some lower tier team(s) that come out the gate in the first 25-30 games "hot" streak....may be so far ahead of a superior team that that team never catches up..... some real contenders may end up with a nasty surprise.
I am also fascinated to hear the audibles of baseball meeting hardwood bat.....may really hear the "crack" of that like never before......gonna hear some cussing also...like never before with lessened stadium volume duw to reduced fan count.
Welcome to "bizzaro" baseball 2020.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the MLBPA has rejected and will not counter the league's current offer for the 2020 season.
Instead, Passan says, the union is asking the league to determine how many games it intends to play and when players should report. The belief is that MLB desires a season of around 50 games if it has to pay the players their full prorated salaries. Unless something changes, MLB will set the schedule and the union will subsequently file a grievance, arguing that the league hasn't held up its end of the bargain to play as many games as it safely could.
