a bunch of them have relatives that made the league, but I don't think all of them
quite the wide spectrum of players!

well I know Sanderson was traded for one big C.... (from St Louis to Vancouver for cash)
looking up Dennis Hextall, he was ALSO traded for cash (from Montreal to California Golden Seals)

they were also both traded for Walt McKechnie, so that must be the answer.

It's a bit of a shady question given that a lot of those guys weren't directly traded for McKechnie, but the draft picks that they were selected with were.

Walt McKechnie was drafted by Toronto,as a 16 year old in the first round of the 1963 amateur draft. Then Toronto traded him to the WHL Phoenix Roadrunners for Steve Witiuk on October 15 1967.On February 17 1068 the Minnesota North Stars acquired him from Phoenix for Bob Charlebois. The California Golden Seals got him and Joey Johnston for Dennis Hextall,on May 20 1971.During the Intra-League Draft on June 10 1974..............

The NYR got him,and in just two days traded him to the Bruins for Derek Sanderson. Boston in turn traded him to the Detroit Red Wings, along with a 1975 third round draft pick on February 18 1975 for Hank Nowalk and Earl Anderson.Acquired by the Caps 1979 third round pick-Boris Fistric- and a compensation for the free agent signing goalie Ron Low,whom the Red Wings had signed on August 17,1977....................................

The Capitals traded McKechnie to the Cleveland Barons on December 8 1977 for Bob Girard, and Clevelands second round pick in 1978.(Paul MacKinnon). The merger with the North Stars 1978 brought him back to Minnesota a second time. They in turn traded him again, this time to the team who drafted him in '63,Toronto. for the Leafs third round pick in '80.(Randy Velischek).........................................

It's been around what, about 30 years or so? I just remember it didn't exist when I started following hockey. I would think it's probably Detroit.
