I think a couple of things that stood out were the lack of defensive depth, and, as well as they played, the inconsistency of goaltending come crunch time

I know we all love Boosh and Leights, but neither of them are #1 goalies

EDIT meant to say offseason ;)

Not wasting anytime thinking about the future following a tough loss. I like it. When the Pens lost in 08 I didn't have the mental ability to even comprehend that there would be a "next year" for at least a day or so.

I understand what you are saying, but Ive kinda had a sinking feeling since that 3rd period of game 4 that Chicago was gonna win the series...

And so Ive kinda prepped myself for the moment, and looking foward to October (cuz the Eagles aren't gonna do squat this year ;) )

Yeah, I'm gonna withhold any comments for a few days and let the Flyers' fan mourn. They had a hell of a run!

3 things they need...

1. A starting goalie. Perhaps Bernier. I do NOT want Price or Thomas. Carter needs to go. Too many centers on this team and he does JACK in the playoffs. Briere proved he's a great player when put with the right combination of players and We STILL Have Giroux, who in my honest opinion needs more ice time.
2. A FACEOFF GUY.
3. A solid 5-6 defenseman...or bring up one of the two down on the Phantoms (Marshall or Bourdon)

Without knowing Philly's cap situation one bit, I would say:

Make a hard run on Dan Hamhuis. Trust me on this one.

There aren't any truly elite goalies on the UFA market this year. Avoid the temptation to try and sign Nabakov to an expensive deal. Look at small, short term contracts for Mason or Turco.

Use Carter as trade bait if you can't sign an acceptable goalie, or bring in a good defenseman. Otherwise, use him to add depth in a trade. I could see Carter in St. Louis or LA.

I would still like to see Schneider from the Canucks. Luongo plays close to 70 games per season. Use Carter in a package to get him. Carter and Parent for Schneider and Elder. Free's up cap, gets us a goalie and defenseman and the Canucks get a 40 goal scoring center. Otherwise there is enough cap to offer a contract to eith Mason or Hamhaus.

We need another elite D' Man to pair with Pronger or Timmo to ease some of the minutes those 2 are logging, i'm sure they were getting tired at the end.

We need to re- sign Leighton to a back up roll and go get a legit starter for the net! A lot of fans are saying trade Carter and I agree but only if it is for a top tier Goalie!

Get rid of Carcillo, we have a solid core of 3 & 4 line guy's. We really don't need an agitator on this team, we did very well without him in the playoffs!

As far as my thoughts on the over all team and the play of Pronger I will just add this.

I used to hate Pronger myself and could just never see the skills everyone said he had. I didn't give him an ounce of credit in the Duck's winning the cup. Gave most of it to Nied's.

When he became a Flyer I was like FUCK NO!! And I blamed a lot of the struggles this team was going through on him. After the playoffs, looking back on his over all performance for the year, I have to say he is still far from my favorite Flyer but I most definitely want him back!:D

I think he comes back with a real nasty edge about him next season! I hope he instills it in the rest of this team, Get a GOOD GOALIE and I think this taste of the finals will inspire this team to return just like it did the Pens. As much as people don't want to admit, if this team is healthy with a GOOD GOALIE and Pronger they are very scary!

Not a Flyers fan but asking about Carter. What happened to him? I thought he was going to light it up but I felt the same way about Vanek with the Sabres.

What do Philly fans feel about Carter?

Just another thought from the outside. I don't think Philly management should go into panic mode and make too many drastic changes.

They ran into a very good team that has a good mixture of speed and physicality. The Hawks have some damn good forwards and some pretty solid defensemen and they were obviously hungry.

Maybe a tweak here or there but I don't see any major changes needed. One little tweak would be Hartnell getting a haircut and dropping the extra 10 pounds of hair might make him a bit faster. :)

I feel that with his contract expiring after next season, and also after next season having to resign guys like Giroux and Leino, I think Carter is right now more valuable to us as trade bait

You basically have 5 centers right now: Richards, Giroux, Briere, Carter, and Betts. You cant get rid of richards because he's your captain, cant get rid of Briere because of his contract, can't really get rid of Betts because he is your fourth line anchor, leaving Giroux and Carter. Giroux was our best player at a couple of points this postseason, and in only his second season is showing a lot of progress.

This leaves Carter. If we can use him to gain another winger and perhaps a veteran d-man that can play with Bartulis on the 3rd line, I would be happy.

That, or use him to get Vokoun.

Carter is the Flyers best goal-scoring talent, without a doubt. He came back from injury WAY too early, and was skating on two broken feet. That and I think Carcillo knocked him silly in Game Two. He's a 40-goal scorer who can play both ends of the ice.

If Homer uses him as trade bait, he better see a huge return. I doubt LA gives up Bernier, but if they feel like they are close to making a deep run, a guy like Carter could be in their sights. Of course Bernier for Carter straight up would be silly, there would have to be another forward thrown in on LA's side.

Carter was one of my favorite players. Fast, great wrist shot, a real goal scorer. 2 years in a row has disappeared in the playoffs. Injured both times. Had a chace to burry the Pens in I think game 2 last year and with an open net shot right into Goalie. This year could have won Game 6 with 1:30 left and shot right into goalie.

Has 1 year left at $5 million and will want a huge contract. Since he is one of the only Flyers without a NMC or NTC, he has value to bring in a young goalie or create space to sign another defenseman. Would hate to see him go but he is one of the few tradeable parts.
