So say we use the non exclusive tag

SO say we do tag Cousins and the Niners are willing to give up the #2 pick

  • Do we draft Watson or Kizer.. because that would be sexy after all

IM also going to throw a curve ball for every one who is lusting over the Niners #2 pick ( which I dont think they would give up in any case)

How quick would you be to deal Kirk to Denver if they came calling with the 20th pick in the first round??

Again, under the same set of circumstances, Kirk would not beat him out either. I hope that this is the best that you have in way of arguing against, because if that's all you have, that's a really thin argument and says nothing about how he projects to play in this offense.

If it were that simple, but facts are McCarron has eight games of experience period. Odds are Gruden wont have any where near the level of trust in him that he likely would in Cousins. A QB with eight games of expeerience will not have the free agent draw that Cousins will. And if McCarron turns out to be the next Oswieler as apposed to the next Cousins, well Gruden is fired.

Lets also forget that the OC has been here with the HC and the QB. And it likely wont require teaching Kirk how to run our offense, but more so expanding on what he already knows of our offense. SO the two would be in totally different situations.

But again aside from that.. awesome idea.

Sometimes people look for difficult solutions, when in fact simplicity is the way. Clearly you want to look at it from a negative point of view, and that's fine, because the very clear response to what if it fails? is, in fact what if it doesn't?

Gruden ran the Lewis offense, bought it here and of course tweaked it to his own liking, Lewis is still there so the similarities between the two are greater than they are not. Not huge learning curve for McCarron if it comes to that. The positives are that we up-grade at QB, save some cash for other things, and not miss a beat here. I know just like DAD, I'll never convince you otherwise, but as I told him, you're also wasting your time trying to convince me otherwise as well.

......better than that....it's highly plausible! It a perfect fit, and he's not a clone of he who shall remain nameless. Since that was the argument against Taylor.

Under the same circumstances? Not a chance! Two years ago Dalton was firmly entrenched as their starter, the ONLY question at QB was who would be his backup, McCarron won out.

Next years second which will likely be some where around 60th

Whew, good laugh there, thanks, I needed that! Seriously, let's not stray too far away from your original question. I believe that's what this thread is all about , correct?

I know the memory is fading fast Sty... But remember we once gave up a likely hall of fame CB for an above average RB and a second rounder.

I know some are lusting after the #2 pick in the draft.
I figure some would be happier to see Kirk go else where for a variety of reasons.
I also suspect some would not mind seeing Gruden get the boot for some of his perceived failures.

Even if we give Kirk the non exclusive tag and we deal him... as history shows there is no guarantee we get two first rounders for him.

Wow, Sty based on the OP's hypothetical theme and your plans -- I'd give it a shot, it may cost me my job, but the next head coach would be set on defense. Are you willing to share your draft and FA targets.
I'm slightly surprised at folks basically writing off any other option then Cousins to lead this team, LOL.
Folks already know how I feel about Cousins

All true, however, this was Gibbs 2.0 when all he wanted was more seed money for his burgeoning racing empire. we didn't have a dedicated GM when then instead I offer you this stroll down memory lane.....

Principal Owner:
Daniel Snyder
Executive VP of Player Personnel/Football Operations: Vinny Cerrato

Damn, had to twist up a couple after pasting that, just to calm down. I've still got a lot more faith in Sm than any of the clown show guys. as to the rest of what you've written:

I know some are lusting after the #2 pick in the draft. (Based on your scenario, it's the best option if we can get it)
I figure some would be happier to see Kirk go else where for a variety of reasons. ( For me it a matter of getting better, keep him if we can't, buh bye, if we can)

I also suspect some would not mind seeing Gruden get the boot for some of his perceived failures. (For me as this team get better players, they will need better leadership, if Gruden steps up, Cool, if not, see ya!)

Even if we give Kirk the non exclusive tag and we deal him... as history shows there is no guarantee we get two first rounders for him. (True, but the secondary compensation had better serve our needs just as well, or it's, your services are no longer needed here to whoever makes the deal.)

As I said in a follow up post, I think they might be nice and throw in a second rounder in 2018. Remember... the 2 first rounders are the asking price, what we can negotiate might be more, but would likely be less. So I figure the #20 pick this year, and a second next year would get it done. And much like Bailey for Portis.. some fans will think we got the better end of the deal.

Sure, but I'm just now getting into the whole draft/FA mode, so it's going to take a bit of time before I get back to you on that. Preliminarily, there's Berry, and the NT in Philly.

Yeah I don't get that either, someone asks for plausible scenarios in the KC aftermath and NOTHING seems to at minimum generate a "Hmmmmmmm, that might work" sort of response. It's got to be Kirk or bust which parenthetically might end up being the same thing. He who shall remain unnamed must have truly hurt them because he was not successful for us, I personally don't think it wise to get attached to any player as they come and go as their skills erode or there becomes better options. That said, if as some have offered this team goes the Taylor route, then he's our QB and the quarterback whisperer, had better step up and do his best work with him.

IN most cases, if your boss walks in and says... what are our options... he isnt asking for fairytales that IF they work will make things better... but in most cases have little chance of actually working. If we are going to replace Kirk, and its going to lead to what will likely be a coach firing and a continued search for the "IT" QB... forgive me if i think thats more about some people disliking Kirk because he displaced he who shall not be named. More than any realistic hope that the team as a whole will improve by continually playing the we need a QB game. :thumb:
