I have no idea what more evidence you need to see that tells us QBs at the Tyrod Taylor level are not the answer and never will be. And before you pull out Trent Dilfer I will remind you it happened exactly once and Dilfer was never heard from again, it was 17 years ago when the rules were different and a good QB was less important, and it required a record setting all time great defense.

Oh no Im right there with you that you need a good QB to win the SB. 100%. But I think youre underrating Tyrod and overrating Kirk if you think Tyrod definitely isnt good enough and Kirk definitely is. Reality is we dont know with either one.

Reality is, Tyrod has shown that he is better setup to run the style of offense we ran in 2012. Thus he would be a bad fit for our current coach. Now if we are planning to fire Gruden, Taylor would be an excellent choice.

Cousins is the best "Available" QB for this team at this point in time. Anything else risks another rebuild plain and simple.

I think Tyrod can run a Gruden offense fine. There would be adjustments but Gruden should be doing that no matter who is at QB. More deep passing and things like read option but ultimately Tyrod can run an offense perfectly fine without it having to be a gimmick.

And i mean yea Cousins is the best available QB for us at this time but you asked for the plan given him being traded so Im not sure what your point is.

Honestly i wanted to see if any one at this point had a realistic plan that didnt involve the likelihood of the coach and GM getting fired. So far most options lean towards an exciting off season followed by a mid season thread entitled who should we hire as coach now. :thumb:

What are your thoughts on my plan?

You seem to be much lower on Tyrod than I am but I think Tyrod + Leary + a defense that adds Hooker, Thomas, and Cunningham can win 8 games if not more. That shouldnt get Gruden fired.

Aside from the whole Taylor thing, I dont think its a bad plan. But I also dont think Taylor coming in to learn Grudens offense gets us better than 5-11 and Gruden would then be fired.

Fair enough.

I think 5-11 with Tyrod would get Gruden fired but I dont think it should. If Im GM Gruden would be pretty far from the hot seat.

What exactly would be the point of all of this? So over 2-3 years they get better & basically become the KC Chiefs or Houston Texans of the NFC. Good enough to get a playoff spot but never good enough to go all the way due to a QB who is just good enough to get you in the postseason but not to the next level.

i dont think tyrod has the accuracy and ability to read defenses to function in this offense

the bills want to go with the untested cardale jones over tyrod so that should really open your eyes a bit on tyrod

Did you want me to have us tank?

I think this keeps us competitive in the short term and keeps anybody from getting fired while also giving us a potential franchise QB to develop. Plus it gives us a lot young talent on defense. Im really not seeing the problem here.

Keep in mind too that theres no guarantee Kirk wins us a SB. We could end up like the Bengals/Chiefs of the NFC anyways.

Why doesnt he have the ability to read defenses?

Hes also probably a more accurate deep thrower although a less accurate intermediate and underneath passer.

I think there is a huge difference between Kirk Cousins and Tyrod Taylor. You can win and possibly compete for a title with Kirk Cousins and a good team around him. Tyrod Taylor will always hold you back regardless of the team around him so it makes zero sense IMO to go in that direction.

I dont see Tyrod really holding anybody back. Hes a pretty solid QB and I have a suspicion if he was our QB everybody would be raving over him.

And in the words of our President before he became President.. you're fired.

Watson is RG3 lite. Not as much narcissism, not as injury prone... but this kid will never be more than a gimmick QB. And we both know if we draft a QB because we dealt Kirk... no way in hell he rides the bench. :)

Well well well, Shark Synder -- Ehb5 and I played along with your biased, one-sided exercise -- and this is the thanks we get:) Two things, why are people taking this scenario literal? and why did you fire me?

I left a LOT of option on the table and only one of them meant possibly not having two first round picks in 2018.
And even if Watson was picked up, I'd expect Gruden to do what he was originally hired to do. Help QBs excel.
Watson should at least be able to perform like an Alex Smith. With what I would have done in the draft and FA, i think we would have made the playoffs.

Ha, ha, the old bait & switch from Shark...reel 'em in and beat 'em up after. Lol! I like your plan Skin'em however, I also think McCoy may be a better fit to run Gruden's system present day than Taylor who is also coming off surgery. After all, he has been here, knows the system and is comfortable at this point. Can he win us a SB? Likely not but KC won't win us a SB next year either. Taking the 2 first rounders, possibly trading down accumulating additional picks and loading up on defense would be my priority if this scenario plays out. Bring in Schaub to complete with McCoy for the starting spot if nothing else.

Hmmm seems like the people actually offering up suggestions have similar ideas but the people criticizing those suggestions haven't offered up any themselves.

I wasn't at liberty to talk trading down especially @ #2 because I haven't done the point value homework.
But yes, that would IMO be the best move, if Garrett went first.

Being honest here, I dont see many scenario's that dont involve basically starting over. And you got to consider that a rookie QB or a retread is basically saying that unless we get lucky, we are likely going to finish worse than we did the past two seasons. That I think gets the coach fired, and the GM on the hot seat going forward.

I realize that Kirk doesnt give people the warm and fuzzy. He isnt exciting enough, he cant single handedly win us games when other parts of the team falters.

But like as not he is our best option for now. And a change at QB is basically saying we are starting over.

So unless we make that change and are the 2017 version of what Dallas did... jobs will go on the line the moment the season starts.

And I really hate the misguided concept that any old stiff could do better than what Cousins does in this offense.

I'll be honest as well, I do think Tyrod or even Foles could come in "this" system and have "success". 8-7-1 is a winning record. On the other hand, do I want Cousins? do I prefer Cousins? YES. Franchise tagging Cousins again and not getting a long term deal done doesn't instill confidence in employee or fan. I think last year, folks kept the door cracked by saying a long term deal would get done -- it never did.
