So we apparently still ave some fans who think we shouldnt resign Cousins. This is not a question, its a statement of fact.

So lets say for a moment, we tank the rest of the season, finish 3-13. Now lets also say the Niners have managed to actually WIN 3 games, so same record. BUt due to the tie breaker, and as we have the head to head, we actually pick behind them.

The stars have aligned (for some folks around here), we sucked and have the perfect reason to ditch Kirk no matter what his over all performance was. Because at the end of the day, he couldnt carry the team or he sucked or what ever.

Now suppose Kyle in his infinite Wisdom signs Kirk, but still has the #1 pick. Do we in fact trade up to take Darnold (Or who ever the current cant miss QB is come draft time) Knowing that it could still cost us in effect what we gave up in our last trade.

Or do we settle for the #2 guy again??

Mind you i have conceded that we would not resign Kirk in this instance for any reason at any price.

OK... GO

Seriously - 6 games into the season & with a 3-3 record this is where we are going on this forum? Worse than the Browns, Giants, etc? Has this place now been diminished to gloom and doom?

Cmon man - let's at least have some hope & see what this team can do in the next month or so. I am starting to wonder if folks here simply want to talk about football & related moves or actually watch & enjoy the games. Thus far this team - although far from perfect - has only lost 3 games & to two teams who could conceivably be in the SB. Way too early to be talking about the draft & replacing Cousins.

@SoCalWizFan I did say it was the what if game. I do realize that there are some fans more than willing to sacrifice the season in order to have a QB other than Kirk.

So this was kind of directed at them to get their thoughts on what we do should we find ourselves in this situation??

Personally i think we will either get wild card, or just miss out. And any trade up will be painful period. Because I dont see them settling for the 4th or 5th best QB in this years draft.

OK - NP. Just don't want to see this place turn into a gloom & doom forum & the conversation turn almost exclusively into talk about Cousins & his future. That was fine for the offseason but games are actually being played at this time. If say this team rolls off a ton of losses moving fwd then fine - that topic is fair game.

Would be nice to see some victories in the weeks ahead & see if that changes the mood. Thus far this team has lost to the Eagles & the only team that has beaten the Eagles. Some of this is due to shortcomings of the Redskins, but you also have to consider the talent level of the other teams & the injuries. We will see.

Oh I agree. BUt you know I also have a tendency to play devil advocate.

As I said, Im thinking we are a wild card team until proven other wise. I could also make the argument that even with the injuries, we stood a chance in all three of our loses. DJ Swearinger should be flogged at practice this week for sure.

Is it safe to say we have had the toughest schedule in the league up to this point and we have the toughest schedule over the next four games as well? 3-3 is not bad at this point. 2 of those losses came against a top two team in the league at the moment.

Wow... I figured one or two posters would be all over this with reasons why we wouldnt trade up, and we would be a better team for the suffering even if we ended up with the #2 QB in this coming cornucopia of QBs.

If Shanny signs Kirk the 9ers aren't going to draft a QB with that pick. We'd be money baby!

The posters you want to respond will not because they won't publicly admit they want KC out of here. They play the "he's ok" or "lets wait and see" or "he's just a facilitator" lines. I would love to actually have them come out and say they want him out and be truthful as to why. Now that would be an interesting thread.

I agree. BUt my point was, if Shanny isnt going to draft a QB, he is going to auction off the pick to the highest bidder. Even if we are sitting at #2, do you really think Dan and Bruce are going to be ok taking the 2nd best rated QB in the draft again?? Because if we dont fork up, some one else will considering the Darnold drool fest started just after the 2015 draft.

Agreed, because then that would lead to the WHY question.

Why do you assume they will automatically auction off the pick?

I doubt Darnold is the w/o question #1 pick after SC was ass paddled 49-14.

Because unlike our GM, the Niners have some one with a brain running things. If they sign Kirk, they are still going to need ALOT of young talent. And the draft ( and auctioning off the #1 pick) is the best way to acquire it.

Maybe he would auction off that bid.....but do you think he would ever deal with Dan and Bruce? I don't see him doing anything to benefit those two unless it was a complete screw job.

@j_y19 actually to put a finer point on it, while I dont think Kyle is as vindictive as our GM, I do think if he signed Kirk and had the #1 pick in the draft with us sitting at #2, he might be a fan of dealing the pick just to ensure we DIDNT get the QB we wanted. Or yes, to ensure we got our "GUY" Kyle would make sure it cost us dearly.

Probably not but they are very likely to trade it for multiple high ones.

Draft day 2018 SF 49er's draft room

Phone rings...

Staffer answers and says "Hey Kyle, Bruce Allen is on the line. He wants to talk."

Kyle Answers "Tell him I will take 3 first rounders, a 2nd rounder , and the keys to the Lexus."

Staffer.. "he says lets be reasonable."

Kyle... "Did I say Lexus? I meant Bugatti. And if he says anything but OK.... transfer him to my Dads cell and get me the Browns on the line"

you stay at 2

Says the guy who recommends that the Skins dump Norman at the end of the season - completely ignoring the fact that Norman's absence had a huge negative impact on the defense.
